Never seen your previous posts and I'm a little stunned the reasons why you hesitated. Isn't this supposed to be a modelling site?

I'm living this thread thanks for sharing.

I've been shooting off-schedule shows at London Fashion Week for the last few seasons, I love shooting runway. Checkout the section on my website www.darrenbrade.com.

Last year I also did a showreel which was fun.

After 16 seasons now... I am still loving it... despite the lack of sleep, editing late, deadlines, etc.... but there is everything else... camaraderie, being part of a great team of international photographers... just... everything... it's great!

Just wondering how do you deal with time frames and having a show every hr? And then editing and uploading for deadlines?

I've only shot fashion week from my state and they tend to only have two/three shows within a day.
I'm in a team of two, and we're shooting street style as well as shows with 1 writer, but my editor is pretty relaxed and is happy if we don't cover everything just the best / what we like as we're being sent on a pretty low budget for us. I am hiring a macbook pro, something a bit faster and wondering if we could work a day each with the other one on a break or shoot for 3hrs then break or take separate shows. Think my deadline is like next day.
How do you guys schedule whose on what?

True... Sydney is maybe not NYC, Milan or Paris... but... it's probably the biggest event of that sort on your continent, so I am sure you will have great fun doing it! smile

Maybe one day I can do the big three big_smile
But I'm happy doing Sydney for now its a good step up, Thanks!!

I read the last ones, it often got a lot of bad heat for some reason, we know, some, not all, MM photographers, are very critiquing or hate/sass towards success.
Personally I love reading about Udors fashion shows and Benjamins cover shoots etc

Sorry Udor I refuse to read your forum and look at the pic's as you've not included Stella Mc Cartney.

Whilst I love seeing the shows, and those who are up to the challenge, I don't as one poster put it dream of being Udor.

I've seen a lot of shows, probably about as many as Udor will see in one year, and they are a rush. I've been in the photographers section more that once and saw the politics of how it's done.

Way too much of a challenge for me, and the marketing is the other skill I would never be able to do.

So I just want to say I respect you Udor for sharing, and creating professional pix of quality.  I do like the picture with the lone person and fog.

The best pictures I like are Francoise Huguier's show pictures, quite different and with a very different goal.

I understand your point, I don't think I could do what Udor does for 16 years, it's a tremendous amount of effort among other things.
For now I'm happy attending what I can as a poor young student, and taking advantage of the networking benefits and seeing shows and amazing fashion for free or getting paid! Also I don't have to cook some nights or go out for drinks when attending wink

But I guess fashion weeks get to hectic to even take advantage of those benefits I imagine.

Yeah... well... I have been attacked by some guys on MM that I would be showing off and crap like that...

We used to have many more FW shooters participating in the FW threads... showing their photos etc.

It kinda shifted more to FB, were we are more connected and can share instantly...

Years ago... I tried to shoot every show... and my first FW, I shot 65 shows and backstage interviews etc., absolute insanity... and I had no clue about time management... I shot less and less over the years... and not every show... now, I shoot what my various publications need and throw in a few that I like, with the possibility of selling them. This season... I shot only 20 shows.

With the deadlines... well... I have set up my laptop at the media center... and sometimes I have an hour or two between shows... then I upload, edit and put the shows on a memory stick and give them to my editors.

We are normally a larger team, this time, we had to limit the amount of shooters/writers, and still covered about 50 shows

My main publication modaCYCLE coordinates our schedules, confirmations, backstage access etc., via a google doc spreadsheet, so we can log in and check what's next or what changes are going on.

Great thread! I always want to be at the show. Now I'm starting to attend small shows in NYC and hope one day I could shoot some shows during the fashion week!

Also I have a question for runway shooting. Do you always get model release forms signed for these shows? Or for small shows? Thank you!

Nope... we don't need the releases... the designer and organizer of the fashion show handles the paperwork with the models.
