I got these gorgeous little powder puffs but I almost don't want to use them because I'm afraid of staining them. They aren't cheap !
I have one lip brush that I have cleaned several times over with every method I know and it's clean but permanently stained so I don't want it in my kit any more. Does anyone know how I can avoid this happening to my powder puffs ?
I heard you can put them in the washing machine, has anyone tried that ?
..then i just use liquid detergent and rinse well, squeeze out excess water and lay to dry.
For lip brushes, the best method i've found is to massage the bristles with white bar soap, then push it out of the brush by squeezing it with my nail. It even gets the lipstick out of my white brushes. After the product and soap is out, then I clean it with brush cleanser to disinfect.
Sometimes I'll put mine trough the washing machine. If it has a separate pad inside, I put a large safety pin through it to keep it in place. Other wise I just use a linen bag to keep them all together and separate from my make up towels I wash them with.
I have successfully washed and dried powder puffs in a washer and dryer before. I put the puffs in a lingerie bag and wash them on gentle. It gets them so clean! You do sometimes have to sort of pat them back into shape when they come out of the dryer--every once in a while one gets lumpy.

You could try pure vegetable oil soap-not expensive-supermarket own brand. I use that for cleaning my body painting brushes, and it removes all stains, and leaves my brushes almost like new, even from notoriously difficult to remove colours.

Thanks, I found that a bar of soap works great for lip brushes too but I guess I didn't clean it quick enough because it's permanently stained now.
