Oh come on, Marco Rubio bottles of water at $25 a piece to raise money for his PAC? 4000 bottles? $100,000 because of his State of the Union response.
It doesn't bother me that he took a sip of water. Oh come on, that's not a big deal. But the uproar afterwards was insane and this is worse.
I can't wait until next year. I'm betting there will be product-placement in the State of the Union and the response. I'm getting ready for "The Verizon Wireless State-of-the-Union ... sponsored by Skittles" with the "Red Bull Response".
Gawd. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse....
I think his response was great, usually reaction to dumb stuff the Dems come up with is defensive and usually makes things worse and keep negative headlines in the public eye.
Here he embraced the situation and showed how partisan the media was and how their points were frankly just plane stupid. By embracing it and making a fundraiser out of it the media just may not do it again...and if they do he will make more $$$.

Turn a negative into a positive ... PR 101. Can't fault his team for that.
I don't think the Republican PR drive for the Bush years is quite as effective ... "He didn't exist ..." doesn't seem to be catching on (note that the majority of Americans still feel the melt-down was on Bush's watch).

It was a friggin drink of water! Obviously, he was thirsty. Anyone who has ever stood in front of the type of lights they use for television knows they are damn hot. His face also had perspiration. Big deal!. People want to make a Sunomi out of a bottle of water.
I don't blame him for using whatever is available to him for raising funds. In his case, it's water. Maybe he should market "Marco-2-oh". Billy Carter did OK with Billy Beer.
The minority response is a job nobody ever wants. There's no audience present, no "clap-stand-sit-clap-stand-sit" going on. It's a hard speech to give after one containing a lot of "pomp and ceremony".
I thought the substance of his speech was awesome, but his water bottle wasn't placed where it should have been. If someone with deep pockets wants to pay too much for a bottle of water, that's their right.

This really isn't new - just google the Nixon 5 O'clock shadow. Little things like this have costs people elections for decades, it happens.
Yes, the water and amateurish lighting are trivia. What's more troubling is that Rubio doesn't seem to know that the earth is older than 6,000 years, yet he is allowed to sit on science committees.

Does Obama also believe in God? hmm...goose/gander...

I don't understand. Is Obama sitting on theology committees?

Actually, I do want to and was hoping for an explanation.
The allegation is that Rubio sees the earth as 6,000 years old, which probably stems from the following quote, while sitting on the Committee on Communications, Science, and the Internet:
"“I'm not a scientist, man. I can tell you what recorded history says, I can tell you what the Bible says, but I think that's a dispute amongst theologians, and I think it has nothing to do with the gross domestic product or economic growth of the United States. Whether the Earth was created in seven days, or seven actual eras, I'm not sure we'll ever be able to answer that. It's one of the great mysteries.”
Now, that is quite ignorant of the science.
In claimed contrast, we have Obama, who refers to God in every speech and claims to be a practicing Christian, and the apparent contradiction there is......

Content of Rubio's speech sounded much like Romney's campaign speeches and pretty much every party line republican speech recently when not directly under the influence of whatever kind of hallucinatory tea the tea party drinks.
I do think it is great that Rubio opened up the equivalent of a lemonade stand to raise money for his campaign.
But he still is an amateur when it comes to planning (as shown by the water incident during the rebuttal).
I keep hearing, well everyone needs a drink of water every now and then; for which I agree.
But it is not about the need for a drink of water, it is about the utter lack of preparation for his speech by having the water already available, close at hand and in a plain glass. Instead it was out of camera angle far enough he had to stretch to get to it and it was in anything but a plain glass.
Piss poor planning - See Bush II years for fine examples of piss-poor planning that missed Osama when we could have gotten him early and then went on to screw up the Iraq invasion by not sending in enough forces to do the job right the first time. It wasn't until Bush finally replaced Rumsfeld that we got someone intelligent to run the wars. And he screwed up so many more things.
Same kind of stupidity involved with Rubio's mistake. I expect better from my presidents. So Rubio had better start getting his act together and learn how to plan in advance with viable plans or likely some more stupidity will crop up in the future.

I don't think it's about the planning or the water at all. It's about the money. He used his gaffe to market water for his PAC.
How long until we have corporately sponsored news conferences. How long until Obama starts wearing a Nike swoosh on his basketball clothing. How long until the Republicans rename "The Financial Cliff" the "The Mutual Insurance Fund Financial Cliff"?

It was a complete rerun of Romney. Add to that how Rubio didn't tweak his speech and ended up commenting on things that Obama supposedly had in his address but didn't even say.

Poor planning on his part and on his staff's. It's even worse than poor planning.

His speech was supposed to be a rebuttal, but it sounded like something that was written two months in advance and scarcely touched the details of what Obama had to say.

It's always like that. Sometimes they even go against things not mentioned in the speech, because they thought the Prez would include it. I don't think they even watch the speech. It would be too hard to vett any changes, in real time.

It's crazy because they all get a copy of the state of the union address a couple hours before the speech.
Even the press gets a copy of the full speech ahead of time. I still have a couple copies of GWB speeches that I got while working on set covering the event. I thought it was cool to know what he was going to say...word for word. So they do have time to alter their rebuttal.

But do they have anybody that can think that fast?

He looked like a little boy up there. Like those people who try to get on camera behind the Good Morning America folks outside the window.

Yeah just like when Obama told George Stephanopolis (sp?) that "john Mc Cain hasn't questioned my MUSLIM faith"....that just killed Obamas future, didn't it?...
No, George ran defense for him and here we are 5 yrs later...

And even if he did say that, who cares...are you prejudiced against people's faith also?
