I was discussing how I felt this is a very kind and noble thing for someone to do with my friend earlier today and wanted some other people's opinions on the subject. Especially since most of these families look for smart yet also attractive donors so some models can put their input here as well lol.

Would you?

I can't speak for everyone (of course) but the financial aspect is a big deal for a good number of "donors"...

I have considered egg donation on a number of occasions (though honestly, I'm not sure if my psych history would disqualify me hmm) but I have always just been too reticent...the idea of my biological child being out there somewhere (sure, I know not everyone views it that way- but I find it hard not to), not to mention the slight chance of medical complications (since I very much do want to have my own kids)...

I've had a few friends who have participated in egg donation, and their experiences were positive.

I have always considered doing it. I love children and am a nanny and would love knowing I gave someone the gift of starting their own family. I would never have that feeling that it was "my child" I was giving away. I think it's a great thing!

I could see how some would feel their spawn were put there and they didn't know where they were or what they were doing. Lol but id be comfortable with it

And I really think that is the perfect attitude to have! Exactly the type person who "ought to be" engaging in this...

You're a young, tall, lovely girl- I'm sure they'd be happy to have you!

(I do know that the screening process is so rigorous... There are many medical conditions/histories that can make it a no-go.)

Oddly (or not oddly?) enough, I would much, much sooner be a surrogate than an egg donor... For now, I have to have my body un-pregnant for my acting career (plus many times there is the requirement that the surrogate have at least one healthy child of their own- I've had a pregnancy, years ago, but it ended in miscarriage sad). In the future, though, I would be interested in this. I think a really fantastic situation would be assisting a gay couple in having a baby. smile

Ha, perhaps I will.
Yeah it is a pretty intense background screening.

Yeah to be a surrogate you have to of had at least one child which I have not. Otherwise I probably would consider that too! Lol

My best friend since third grade is gay and we made a pact in elementary school I would be his surrogate when we were adults ha! Maybe that's where my open mind about this came from! But I think a lot of people share this opinion. Or they just aren't voicing it haha

Depends on the method of donation.

I have considered being an egg donor before.  I've heard that it's a very painful process, but the financial benefits are still a lure.  However, they are pretty strict about one's medical history and family medical history.  So I don't qualify.

A friend of mine got denied as a sperm donor because his extended family did not have the money to see doctors regularly and he could not provide adequate medical history for them.

Seems kind of discriminatory.  They only want young attractive people with healthy, wealthy backgrounds.

These days one could probably bring their smart phone in and mutually masturbate with a lover or something.

From the wiki:
A man donates sperm at a clinic or sperm bank by way of masturbation in a private room or cabin, known as a 'men's production room' (UK), 'donor cabin' (DK) or a masturbatorium (USA). Many of these facilities contain pornography such as videos/DVD, magazines, and/or photographs which may assist the donor in becoming stimulated in order to facilitate production of the ejaculate, also known as the 'semen sample'. In some circumstances, it may also be possible for donors to ejaculate during sexual intercourse, and use a condom to collect the sperm.

Okay... So there is a "masturbatorium" hahah. Do you think there is a plaque on the door that says that?

Secondly....   That last option sounds not so bad. Wonder if a partner is provided, or if it is strictly BYOB.

A sperm bank is the only bank where after you make a deposit, you lose interest.

well in my country, eggcel donation doesn't pay. You get paid for your expenses made (like transportation cost, for instance), but that's it.

I would never sell my eggs just for money, but harvesting eggs for donation is a very tiring process, with lots of medical investigations and hormones you have to take. So I would never do it unless it is for someone I know and that I'm willing to go through all that trouble for...

I could not imagine doing it. I have no opinion about others doing it, but for me it is not something I could do.

I've considered it. Even read up on it.

I couldn't get past the notion of having some kid out there to whom I'd potentially given all of my qualities but no contact with him or her to watch those qualities take root and flourish. I don't know what the amount of money is to make me accept that (I mean, we all have a price) but whatever amount it was I found in my research wasn't enough.

I feel the EXACT same way.

I would be giving away a part of my heart I feel.

I completely see how some people see it this way. I just don't feel it would be "my" child. It would be similar to if I gave away a body part like a kidney or something. Like its a part of myself but something someone could use and benefit from that I'm not using or would miss. However I don't feel I could give away a child for adoption, that would be "my" child.
