Coming from the photojournalism side of things, I worry less about my hardware than the shot. I've never had to worry about getting that "one" shot because in the back of my mind I was worried about dinging my camera.
It's all just hardware. I've always used Canon because they're relatively less expensive and cheaper to repair in various parts of the World.
Also, from what I'm hearing Nikon now requires all bodies be sent to them for repair bypassing the local repair shops.

I have my black Holga all taped up with black electric tape. I feel like Darth Vader whenever I use it.

It seems like Pentax is still incredibly popular in Japan and Asia. Hence the Gundam cameras. Outside of Asia, I think the 645D is the only really popular model with pros.
