I'm looking to relocate to the LA area, potentially May 1. What is the best way to go about finding a photography assistant job, and is there such a thing as a full-time assistant job? I'm a fashion photographer that also has a background in web design, graphic design, social media, marketing, and performing administrative functions, and would be open to assisting in whatever capacity I'm needed. What you've done in Savannah, Georgia, may be a little different than how its done in L.A. In L.A. there is a lot of competition..
I would not say your a fashion photographer. Just say your a photographer.
If you say you do fashion, make sure you have a stellar portfolio because there are a lot that do fashion.. and they do it very good...
If I were you, look in to a small production company, start as an intern (some pay) not much.. But its a start... Work behind the scenes.. Help with lighting, on set etc.. (to learn more) network while you work.. With some production companies they do a lot of editing for clients.. Look into that..
If your in L.A. maybe you can do head shots for actors, maybe put a small ad in back stage west... Good luck and welcome to the jungle..

Join APA and/or ASMP and start going to all the meetings. Get your name on the assistants list at Samy's and Calumet and other rental houses. When you get on a job, be sure you connect with the other departments (grip, art, stylists and especially the producer) so that you can stay on top of who is doing what and who might need a hand on future gigs.

Yes, there's plenty of people that assist full time though it's going to be on a freelance basis; not for just one photographer.

Nice resume, you have diverse skills that could lead to a variety of income producing opportunities in the arts.

You may also want to consider in-house art studios at film and music production studios advertising agencies, graphic design, and media production studios in LA.

If your skills are strong in web and graphic design (in addition to your photography)
you may have employment opportunities that would afford you the benefit of a good making a good income along with the opportunity to choose meaningful photo assistant choices.

also, if looking for something more M-F 9 to 5, you can get into catalog for clothing companies...

it's not glamorous, but to have a regular paycheck with medical benefits is nice...

you can also freelance to small clothing companies...

as mentioned previously, there is a lot of competition in the commercial and fashion photography scene down here...
