A question for photographers and models
Are there any photographers out there that don't charge...I am just wondering... I mean if the model is building his/her portfolio And the photographer is building his/her portfolio as well. It's like a mutual thing .., does any one do that ... Where it's just about the art of photography and not money.,. Jw... The term is TFP - standing for Time For Prints (now really more time for a cd) - where both the photog and the model work on a shoot/project, and both get images to use. What is shot, how many images you get, all that is worked out between the parties on a session to session and person to person basis. Just check the pages of the photogs and models on Mayhem. If you want to work with someone and are unsure, email and ask. There are some photographers on Mayhem who only do paid work, but a lot willl do some TFP, and some will do TFP for about any model who is serious about doing a good shoot. And some GWC (look it up) will shoot anyone (usually females) who will give them a show, lol. Pick something you'd like to do. ("Looking to pose in the park." "Let's go to a car wash." "How about a picnic shoot...." ) Post that. Find your local photo groups. Go to your local art schools or Art Department of the local college(s). Check Craig's List - or the Yellow Pages if there is still such a thing - and look for 'Art Schools' and any other category you can find. Not EVERY Craig's List ad is for nude work. (Well, I think that might be the case.) Look for a local model agency. They might even give you some of the money they make for working. National Association of Media Professionals. Get a friend - get several! friends - to take pictures of you. Get a boy and girl to take pictures of you and post and challenge us to tell which was shot by which. Don't get discouraged. Good luck. Feb 27 13 03:24 pm Link There are a lot of photographers (and models) willing to do TF. But the key thing is: it has to be something that is a win-win for both parties. I've had models who are new, aren't amazingly beautiful, and say "hey, let's shoot glamour TF...you provide the space, we'll shoot when it's convenient for me." I've been shooting models for 30+ years. There's no reason why this is a win for me. Maybe if the model is amazingly beautiful or has a really unique look. Or maybe if she's providing the space and it's cool space. Or maybe if I want to try out a new lens or body. Or maybe if she's willing to shoot something I want to shoot (like...artistic nudes....or a specific vintage concept....or an editorial concept that she has no interest in but really rings my bells). There has to be a reason why a photographer would want to work with you. No insult intended. But think of a new photographer approaching an experienced model and effectively saying "give me a couple of hours of your time to shoot some concepts you have no interest in or you already have 2,000 shots of you with that theme and they may be of questionable quality b/c I'm not a veteran with years of experience doing this...deal?" If you want to attract TF options than offer something that would entice photographers to work with you. Maybe it's a really cool concept. Maybe you research the photographer, find out what they want to shoot, and then pitch it as "I"ll pose for A if you shoot me for B" offer. Or maybe find some really cool space that any photographer practically wets his/her pants to have an opportunity to shoot at/in. But make it a win for the photographer and you'll get responses to a TF offer. Agency models and established professional photographers, more often than not, will expect to be paid. Exceptions to that are the individuals in this category who are seeking out the established professionals on the other side of the fence, to create images of perfection for the benefit of both. That's where TFP or TFCD usually steps in. On the other side of the coin, there's thousands of beginning, or wannabee models and amature and hobbiest photographers on this site, who are striving to include themselves within the ranks of those mentioned above. Unfortunately for many of these beginners and amatures, regardless of how hard they try, they will never achieve the level of expertise experienced by those who are established professionals and agency represented. That's largely because either they don't have the potential, haven't marketed themselves in the right direction, or educated themselves on what it takes to succeed in the brick and mortar world of this industry... The bottom 10% in any "industry" model or photographer will be paying others to help learn, experience, study, and such. The students, newbies, and beginners.
