Hello all

Please advise on the below received from a model on MM recently

"I would be happy with £700 for 5 hours and all the photos on a disc with possibility of using them for promotional purposes, with a right to edit them/ask others to edit them the way I want, possibly for promoting company I am involved with. Credits to you/your site would be provided indeed."

Thoughts!

What is she Angelina Jolie or Marilyn Monroe i say move on. Your paying her if so why give out any of your work unless its a trade then again shes asking for your nuts and noddels. And in this case you would be nuddles  to give her anything she wants.

Tell her "sure".... after you go shoot Halle Berry at her place.

With a portfolio like yours, you shouldn't be paying anyone....

The value of the rate itself depends on the location and local talent pool.  I imagine that beautiful western models who do nudes are in short supply in Dubai. $100-150 an hour is reasonable in many US markets for top nude models.

The second request that she also get the images for her own commercial use is obviously a psychotic fantasy.

If I got paid  £700 for 5 hours work I might consider handing over a disc to the model, but sure as heck not if I pay the model.

£700.00 = about $1050.00 USD.

everything is negotiable....
whats the better deal for OP?
If your paying you need to let the talent know a model release is signed before payment and maybe a few low-rez images are forwarded.

If  she is paying you then your own business practices and usage rights agreements play in this equation.

If the model is offering the £700 for images to advertise their company I'd suggest to them that their offer was a little light and make a counter offer.
If the model wants you to pay to provide advertising images I would respond,"I'm sure you would and I would like a pony."

Seriously???

Who would think this over for more than a second, much less take time to post this in a forum?

Wish the model good luck.

She wants to use the images to promote a company she is involved with.  That sounds like commercial usage to me.  She basically wants you to pay her to do a commercial shoot instead of the other way around.  I've had models make me offers like this and my answer is always the same, no chance.  I'm not going to pay a model for the privilege of taking her picture so she can use that picture in a commercial endeavor.

If I got a response like this I would automatically assume the model is purposely making ridiculous demands because she doesnt want to work with me. I dont know what model rates are like in your area, but the rights grab puts it waaaay over the top.

However, with the outstanding quality of your work-- I would assume she was delusional. There -must- be a better candidate.

It's not a laughing matter -- a model has the right to ask for whatever compensation she wants, and the photographer has the right to accept, decline, or make a counter offer.

I agree -- I am assuming that it is the model who wants to be paid, along with editing & usage rights to all images.  In addition, that quote rate is typically more than I can afford.  I'd be inclined to decline that offer.  I would say something like, "I'm sorry, but I can't afford you quoted rate, nor am I comfortable with other people editing my images.  Thanks, anyway, but I'm afraid I'll have to decline your offer".

My standard operating procedures:

...  Just because I disagree with the model, that is no cause to laugh at her or
punish her.  It's a disagreement, and that is no reason to disrespect the model.

...  I assume that every model I talk with will in turn talk with every other model in
the world.  Make sure they don't bad-mouth you.

...  If she gets photographers to meet her terms, more power to her.  If no
photographer meets her terms, she'll either reduce her requirements or get
out of the business.  Either way, problem solved, and I didn't have to get
     involved.  Win-win.

By the way, £700 for 5 hours might seem like a lot to many of us, but we are not at the OP's locale.  A model's rates are most influenced by the supply & demand of suitable local models, and for all I know, £700 for 5 hours might be a reasonable modeling fee there.

Finally, to the people who express sentiments like "With a portfolio like yours, you shouldn't be paying anyone", I would say that I always assumed that the best photographers used the best (paid) models -- they just found clients willing to cover everybody's fees.  If you are good enough to earn significant revenue from your photography, then shame on you for not paying models.  (At least, that's how I think).

Thank you for all your input.
I frequently pay good models market rates in different parts of the world for varying projects especially if they have something unique to bring to the table, this is the first time since using MM I've ever had this type of demand from a model, I guess she won't be working with too many photographers.

Replied with the following

"If paying that hourly rate I would require a signed release from yourself for usage rights, copy available on request.
Happy to provide you with a few edited images of my selection as a courtesy, they will however feature my watermark.
Under no circumstances, even TFP would I provide all images or allow permission for third parties to edit my work.

Please view the "testimonials" section of my website if you haven't already.

Warm regards"

The request is not unreasonable.

It is just a silly offer trying to find someone stupid enough who will bite the deal.

Very polite and businesslike reply.  It'll be interesting to hear about her reply, if any.

Is this a real question or did you just want us to laugh?

First of all, I would be very polite to model that I am hiring you as a "Model" and that the "Images" that I take will be mine and only mine. That you may choose not more than (X) images that I will have edited for you to use "ONLY" in your port and that I do not wish you or anyone you wish to hire to edited them. Now if you wish to do this shoot on a TFCD then we might talk about your demands.

£700.00 = about $1050.00 USD, that is $210 USD. Is she really worth $210 an hour?

$210 an hour is something to laugh about for a MM model.

To which you respond...

"Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I'm thrilled you would be happy with the aforementioned terms of the shoot. I would be happy if you choked on my dick for 5 hours. After which, I will give you the appropriate credit.

I look forward to working with you..."

I would have no problem with this arrangement if it also included her giving me a bj.

But it better be a really good bj.
