I need to find a large wrinkle-resistant black background for a location shoot next weekend.

Westcott has this one, which B&J says they can dropship to me in time for the shoot - but it's only 8 feet wide.

I'd rather have one that's 9, 10 or even 12 feet wide that travels well in a car - something I wouldn't have to steam or press before each shoot.

Any suggestions?

Get the size you want, add grommets, get a frame that's quite a bit larger and mount it with bungee cords that that the wrinkles are stretched out of it.

Thanks for the suggestion. But since the model would be behind and under the models (like a cyc wall), it would have to be built in sections so it could be dismantled, and it probably still wouldn't travel well in a car. I'm guessing it would cost as much as a cyc wall to build, and it probably wouldn't be available in a week.

I think he's talking like a normal muslin background, but grommetted holes in the muslin, and stretch it like canvas.  It's still as portable as it ever was, you just have to bring bungee with you to stretch it.

Edit:  Think like this but not as intricate, and using bungees.

Edit 2:  You could still leave the bottom rolled out on the floor... and just use an iron on it before the shoot...

Get yourself some Duvetyne. Its very soft matte non-reflective, doesnt wrinkle, and if it did, its impossible to see if lit properly. Its also cheap and durable.

I was in JoAnn fabrics about a year ago looking for BG materials. I mentioned what I was looking for to the saleswoman. She told me she was a photographer too, and recommended black jersey (think T-shirt) material. It's stretchy and damn near won't wrinkle. You might need to get two pieces and have them sewn together, because it usually only comes in widths of about 5'. Eliminating the seam in photoshop would be no trouble at all.

Exactly.

Or tape paper to a wall like Avedon.

Some good ideas here. Several of these would work. Thanks to all.
