Before I started Mehron Celebre Pro HD foundation, I was using Graftobian Cream Foundations and I loved them but since they contained mineral oil I stopped using them. I did really like them texture ability to blend and look after setting it with a powder.

I recently purchases (a few months ago) Mehron Celebre Pro HD foundation and I have been having problems with it constantly.

I have used my beauty blender sponge to apply it on my face (still in the testing phase) and a few of my test models. The problem that I am constantly encountering is that when the set with a powder (Ben Nye Transulant setting powder) the foundation becomes "caky" and flakes on some areas (between the eyebrows, around the nose, and more drier areas on the face.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong but no matter what I tried up until now, whenever I set the cream foundation with a setting powder it just changes and the makeup looks unnatural and flaky on the entire face.

1. I first apply a primer, then I have tired the two following things:
1. mixed it with a mixing medium to make it more liquidly (MAC face & body) with a thick wet synthetic brush and/or a damp beauty blender

2. I applied the foundation with a damp beauty blender and just blend it into the face

no matter which of the two methods I did, the foundation flakes on the entire face as soon as I add the setting powder or better said it looks like that.

Can someone give me some advice concerning this foundation. Do you guys have the same problem with this foundation?

The foundation when it dries gets a more matte finish. (if I do not apply a setting powder, since this is a cream foundation I want to set it so that it does not just slip off the face).

Thanks

Yes- i definitely had issues the first time i tried this foundation. It looked lovely on myself, but on some models it looked flakey just like you described.
I know it's a super creamy and buttery foundation, but what works for me is only using it on people with a more oily skin type and then setting it with something like Ben nye powder. I love this foundation on people of color or bi-racial people because their skin just carries it well. I love it on myself because my skin is more oily. But as soon as you apply it to someone with more dry skin or problematic skin, it become a hot mess. So for those individuals, i just carry the RCMA palette. And sometimes i will mix the mehron with the rcma.
As for primer, generally i use the Embryolisse lait crème concentré. However sometimes I use a silicon based primer as well, such as Dr. Brandt pores no more or Benefit's Porefessional if i want to smooth any imperfections.

In my MM port, most of the models are wearing the Mehron celebre with very little retouching. It is a beautiful foundation when used properly. Don't give up!

edit: My favorite way of applying it is with a flat top foundation brush and buffing it into the skin

The Hd Pro Creme does not always have to be set with a powder. It contains silica which absorbs moisture and contains a type of wax rather than oil as an emollient.
It's recommended to set it with powder mostly if you use the wet blending sponge technique because you are adding moisture to the product .
Otherwise the Ben Nye Powder might contain extra silica or clay that is sucking the moisture out of your HD Pro cream foundation. Try to apply without powdering and give it some time to set. it should turn out matte. You might also want to try a different setting powder.

The Ben Nye Powder is probably designed to be used with heavier, oil based creams such as the Graftobian that contained mineral oil and so it will pull moisture from those types of products and set them properly.

The HD pro contains no oil. So there is nothing for the powder to pull and its probably dehydrating your Pro HD cream.

Best of Luck

awesome advice.
This explains alot why BN worked with my Graftobian palettes and why I hate it on other products big_smile Thank you so much
In the end I bought the Mehron setting powder. I'm going to try to set the foundation with the mehron setting powder and the wet blending sponge technique

I'm interested to see how this works for you because I am going to be investing in Mehron in the next month or so.

There's nothing wrong with mineral oil being an ingredient. It's becoming very popular among skincare nuts to wash your face with it.

I agree there is nothing "wrong" with mineral oil itself, however there can be sensitivities associated with its use in cosmetics. Some believe it to be comedogenic, however this is arguable. The desicion not to use it is normally a personal preference.
Mineral oils are derived from refined petroleum just like Vaseline and as such is a  "Cheaper" emollient for products. It's been around for decades.
It can be usefull for removing heavy makeup, but I would never use it to "wash" my face wiith because of it's suspected pore-clogging properties.
However, coconut oil has become increasingly popular and I would use that to remove makeup. but that is not a mineral oil.

Cheers and happy blending!!

I find that it works best on normal to oily skin (works amazing when the product is warmed up)
but it's hard to use this on combination - dry and patchy skin.
Since it "drys" matte (different than Graftobian)
I used the Inglot Under makeup base and it worked. The foundation acted like my most loved Graftobian foundation.
I am now purchasing Cinema foundation, primer and the RCMA setting powder.
I still prefer my Graftobian Foundations over my Mehron, I personally find the finish much more second skin like and that it works better with more skin types.
Celebre Pro and it's setting powder work better together than Ben Nye.
While Ben Nye and Graftobian work well together.
