I know it's a super creamy and buttery foundation, but what works for me is only using it on people with a more oily skin type and then setting it with something like Ben nye powder. I love this foundation on people of color or bi-racial people because their skin just carries it well. I love it on myself because my skin is more oily. But as soon as you apply it to someone with more dry skin or problematic skin, it become a hot mess. So for those individuals, i just carry the RCMA palette. And sometimes i will mix the mehron with the rcma.
As for primer, generally i use the Embryolisse lait crème concentré. However sometimes I use a silicon based primer as well, such as Dr. Brandt pores no more or Benefit's Porefessional if i want to smooth any imperfections.

In my MM port, most of the models are wearing the Mehron celebre with very little retouching. It is a beautiful foundation when used properly. Don't give up!

edit: My favorite way of applying it is with a flat top foundation brush and buffing it into the skin

The Ben Nye Powder is probably designed to be used with heavier, oil based creams such as the Graftobian that contained mineral oil and so it will pull moisture from those types of products and set them properly.

The HD pro contains no oil. So there is nothing for the powder to pull and its probably dehydrating your Pro HD cream.

In the end I bought the Mehron setting powder. I'm going to try to set the foundation with the mehron setting powder and the wet blending sponge technique

I agree there is nothing "wrong" with mineral oil itself, however there can be sensitivities associated with its use in cosmetics. Some believe it to be comedogenic, however this is arguable. The desicion not to use it is normally a personal preference.
Mineral oils are derived from refined petroleum just like Vaseline and as such is a  "Cheaper" emollient for products. It's been around for decades.
It can be usefull for removing heavy makeup, but I would never use it to "wash" my face wiith because of it's suspected pore-clogging properties. 
However, coconut oil has become increasingly popular and I would use that to remove makeup. but that is not a mineral oil.

I find that it works best on normal to oily skin (works amazing when the product is warmed up)
but it's hard to use this on combination - dry and patchy skin.
Since it "drys" matte (different than Graftobian) 
I used the Inglot Under makeup base and it worked. The foundation acted like my most loved Graftobian foundation.
I am now purchasing Cinema foundation, primer and the RCMA setting powder.
I still prefer my Graftobian Foundations over my Mehron, I personally find the finish much more second skin like and that it works better with more skin types.
Celebre Pro and it's setting powder work better together than Ben Nye.
While Ben Nye and Graftobian work well together.
