Can't seem to sleep so I just thought I'd ask what do people have going on in the background while they retouch?  Personally I either listen to daft punk/juno reactor Pandora or really any kinda fast technoish stuff like that.  Sometimes even pop music which is nowhere near my normal genre.  I normally listen to just simple alternative or punk but I feel like techno/pop makes me work better for some reason lol

Anything in particular you like to listen to or have on? Or do you prefer to edit in complete silence to maintain a zen-like focus?

I'm weirdo - I don't listen to music at all but I like audiobooks smile
Also I like "watching" youtube/vimeo videos while I'm retouching. Sometimes even movies big_smile But I just listen to them and make glance once in a while - for me it helps to get very fast "fresh eye".
Probably I'm just weird but as my boyfriend is musician it's enough music in my life already big_smile

I have on my 80s Pandora station about 90% of the time. It just keeps me from getting frustrated and bored, but it does usually end up taking me longer to finish a photo because I tend to sing along too haha big_smile

Currenlty while retouching a shoot, I'm listening to my usual asmr videos, as it relaxes me and stops me getting too worked up whilst retouching tongue

But sometimes I'll have my ipod on, mostly heavy metal, alternative rock/electric. I don't do modern pop haha.

For some reason I didn't even bother to look through the retouching forums cause I figured no one would ask this random a question :p  At least it was from 2 years ago and not yesterday I guess.

I totally find that looking at other stuff helps me edit, but I always have to have stuff on that I can ignore.  I tried to retouch while Kill Bill was on and I had to stop to watch the movie haha.

Depends on the images and my mood. It's usually one of the following: trance/dance/etc, rock/alternative, classical crossover, relaxation/new age with or without nature sounds, nature sounds (no music).

This is my probably most listened to list in the studio and out:
Lost in a Trance on Spotify

It depends on the type of shoot it is. If I do a country look, I like country music or something similar. If it's a lingerie shoot, I tend to listen to more hip hop then anything.

The word epic is overused and rarely warranted. Here it is valid 100%

Music is a must for me! I really can't work without it.
I usually have either lastfm or pandora on.
Lately it's been, a Washed Out station or The Smiths.
Orka Veer and M83 are great retouching music I think!

it's interesting...the music I listen to while retouching is totally different from what I typically prefer.

I've come to loving listening to this Russian House radio station, keeps me moving fast and focused

I have listened to KD Lang's "Shadowland" - I teach lightroom and
was quite surprised to hear this was the code name for LR in 2006 when it was stil under development as the programmers listened to this album....!

No music. Deep Puple, AC/DC and Led Zep provided the soundtrack to many memories. I love it too much and would be distracted by the beat and lyrics. Having the TV on in the background doesn't bother me, though... So I might absorb a bit of national headline news, a Jeopardy question or two-- or maybe a loud-mouthed argument breaking out between the girls when my gf is watching Dance Moms. Those distractions are bad enough, I don't need to be drumming on my keyboard to the Kashmir when I should be moving sliders.
