I would like to know if there is anything holding me back based on the photos that you see.  I would appreciate constructive over destructive criticism please.  I have been shooting a long time, but not people necessarily.  I know there are many genres of photography and I am shooting many hoping to find my niche.  I have my muse and she is a dream to work with, but she tells me I suck at direction.  Advice there would be appreciated as well.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, I'm not an expert so here goes: bad cropping - lots of missing limbs, one shot was cut below the knees - now you have an amputee. Watch for unflattering close ups too. Focus on the eyes make sure they are sharp. Most single person shots and head shots as a rule should be vertical not horizontal. You can break that rule here and there but it's something you should consider for composing your shots. Don't try too hard to be creative at first. Keep it simple and try to build on your strengths. You do have some lighting issues with either it being over exposed or under exposed. Go to Amazon.com and get some Scott Kelby books, they do help a lot and get a good book on Portraiture. There is one on Amazon.com by Steve Sint.  Shooting outdoors in the afternoon you would need a reflector, ND filter for your lens and a flash at times. You want to flatter your subjects with light not blow them away....

Thanks,

I started realizing that I was amputating after the shots, in post.  I am working on that one more and more.  Lighting is a larger learning curve for me and after realizing that my "monitor" (a 32" TV) was contributing to how I was editing.  I have, since these were posted, purchased a decent monitor and will have to begin again with many of these edits.

I appreciate the response.

No salt needed, I rub it in my wounds to show that I am still alive.
