Just wondering what in my portfolio is worth keeping, and what isn't.
I'm trying to cut down to only my best, or at least more decent, pictures.
[I'm not the best at deciding what to put up. I have a fan page that has plenty of pictures from my shoots, but I think that would take too long for other people sort through them and tell me which ones they like best, so if you want to check my fan page, it's on my profile. I don't know if Im truly picking out the best ones. ]

But anyway, I'd appreciate what you think is not so good/not portfolio worthy, and what is, if you'd like (basically what is my weakest image and/or strongest image).

I already know I need to find MUA, hair stylists, etc to collaborate with, but I'm not sure how to go about that really to be honest.

Please don't be too harsh, just simple reasons as to why certain images aren't that great and whatnot will do. smile

I think your look is stronger than your port currently shows.

For example, this is a pretty reasonable shot, but the capture isn't that great.

Notice the cut off shows, the lack of detail in the hair and face.
Although I would watch the arm positions.  Arms going into or away from the camera can look off.

I would recommend ditching the entire fashion set.   They just look like snap shots.  Find some time to shoot a stronger fashion set.  Doesn't have to be on a catwalk.

I like the connection in this shot.  It's stronger than some of your others.  Make sure you work with the photographer to convey something.  A picture of "pretty" only goes so far.   Make me feel something, or at least make sure I know what you are feeling when I look at the photo.

The next on however is more blah.  What's your expression saying?  Make sure you do something interesting with your body.   Why are your arms there?   Compare with the previous where the arms wrapping around you add to the story of the shot.

Not the greatest pose or look for you.  This makes you look tense and uncomfortable (look at the mouth).  The outfit's not the best choice, including that bit of the stocking showing on your foot which is distracting.

There aren't to many keepers.  I think you could get something much stronger in your port with some photographers that can get better captures and direct you better.    Make sure you bring that expression, and hit those poses hard.  If the pose isn't telling a story, then it better by interesting in and of itself.

Anyway, I think you could get a kick ass port with some effort and working with some photographers that could direct a bit more.   I'd certainly shoot you if you ever show up in CA.

Good luck.

I agree 100% with noel has said...

That being said lets stay positive and show you photos that should be in your port. I went to your FB page, you have some amazing photos there that you are not using... These I think would make your port stronger

Thank you for your input. I can see what you mean with your comments about the cut off and some of the expressions. Sometimes I don't choose the outfits (like in the photo with the red dress on top of the radio) but the photographers do, but I can see how the stocking thing is a bit distracting. He is the one who posed me in that exact position so I guess I can see how that looks more tense than anything.

I think I will try to find a better photo from my most recent shoot where my avatar is from. I do like the photo, but I can see how the cut off part and how the face and hair aren't that detailed or focused on makes it not as great as it could be.

I'll probably ditch the fashion show set and just let people see it on my fan page if they desire to really see them.

Thank you for taking the time to do that, I know it was a lot to look through lol.
I have actually been debating using one of those images from the SilverWood shoot, but I don't know if that means I should ditch the other photos I Have from that shoot that are already in my port, or if I should just add them. From what I've been told it's not really all that good to have more than a few shots from the same shoot in a portfolio. But I think I'll add that shot with the hoodie at least. smile

Thank you.

Out of all of them, I think that 3 and 8 are your strongest in your book due to the connection with the camera.

I would suggest to remove the following:

4 (odd crop and expression)
6 (you look uncertain in your expression)
9 (odd non-flattering pose)
10 (ditto to number 9, and also cheesy concept)
11 (non-flattering pose, and cheesy concept)
13 (its a simple portrait, but you have way stronger work)
14 (odd crop at your hand)
16 (lighting and composition are off, and expression does not sell the image)
17 (feels like a forced pose vs natural)
18 (non-flattering crop)

Stick with more like:

1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 15

and keep trading up as you go for better photographers that know what they are doing with light and composition. Some of your shots like 2 are good of you, but have color cast issues for example which make them look amateurish because of technical issues.

I would post up your strongest images as mentioned with those 8, and work from there. Less is always better than more. It is better to show the strongest work vs. a lot of weaker work. We are only as good as our weakest photo. good luck

http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31970252 (another super awkward hand pose. trust me, i know its difficult to figure out where to put them)
www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31378437 (whats that weird thing you're holding? i dont get it.)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30363373 (horribly blown out colors, not your fault but does nothing for you)
http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30363408 (framing is way too tight, your elbows shouldnt be chopped off)

Thanks to the new people that replied. I have deleted some more images since I posted this, so I might have deleted some of the more unpopular ones already lol. But I will take what everyone has said into consideration still.
Thank you.
