How often do you look at a photographers work?
As a question for llamas, how often do you look at a photographers portfolio? For example if replying to a casting on facebook do you just go off the casting and wether its a fun souding/something you need shoot, or do you go and browse the photographers facebook page and look at their work and then decide if its a photographer you want to shoot with? I use another site which counts profile views and i have seen many times ill run a casting, have alot of llamas apply and do the shoot and nobody will have viewed my profile... Im starting to suspect something similar is happening on facebook but could be wrong. So llamas, how much time do you spend studying a photographers work before you decide to work with them? Often times if I am contacted via message I will look at their photos first, then read their profile, before even reading the message, certainly before responding. In the case of a casting call, I would read the casting first just to see if it was something relevant for me, but I would look through the port and profile before responding. I never work with a photographer before looking at the work regardless if the casting call has a high pay it is all about how I am portrayed I don't want to end up with anything out there of me that I would be ashamed of or would take down the quality of my portfolio. If the content they are looking to shoot is made clear in the casting call and isn't outside of my comfort range, I'll respond to the casting. If they reply with interest, I'll look through their profile and work out details and set a date/time. I'll pack wardrobe and hair/makeupkit based off of their casting/messages/current profile. I do dozens of casting calls a day sometimes, and I don't always look unless I know they are interested. I usually just check around if anyone knows the photographer personally and if it's positive I'll go ahead and schedule it. Just a little more researching then I usually do, but if they can take a picture of something not interesting, and make it look interesting I'm instantly curious.
