Ok, I'm trying to get submissions for my not-for-profit magazine.  This is basically a free thing I'm doing out of the joy of doing it.  I tried posting in the general industry forum, but it got tagged as spam almost as soon as I posted it.

Seriously, I'm not selling anything, I'm not trying to scam people, I'm trying to create a cool magazine that will feature models and photographers here on MM.

I'd like to post my blurb somewhere that won't get marked as spam, and I certainly don't want to spam...

In no way could this thing be considered a competition to MM...

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Dan

+1

Although good luck getting anybody decent to contribute to a new online magazine if you're not paying them.

Just my $0.02

Well, actually Carrie Leigh did this quite succesfully for her own profit.  There are plenty of decent photogs who don't have their nose in the air who seem to be willing to have their stuff showcased for free.

In fact, lol, Carrie Leigh actually figured out a way to charge people to try to submit to her mag (read...contest).  In the end, her last "contest" never actuall happened.  I'm not sure if people's monies were returned or not.

I have no plans for such a thing.  Right now, this is just a way for me to give back to the community, I mean, why wouldn't you want your stuff showcased in printed form if it doesn't cost you anything?   I already have some terrific submissions.

I have a printer in my office and I can print my images out whenever I choose.

You say your magazine is 'not for profit' but what is the point of that? Why would a photographer give away free content to a new 'magazine' that is clearly nothing more than vanity publishing? Who's going to see it? Who's going to care? Who's going to book me as a result? If your magazine was called "Vogue" then it might be a different story.

If you value our images then you will offer to pay for them. If not, then find somebody else to exploit, thanks.

Wow, such bitterness.  I mean, calling me exploitive?  That's just plain ridiculous. I'm
offering to put together something that yes, is a bit like a vanity mag, but it will be juried, and not any 'ol GWC will be in there. It doesn't cost anything to be involved other than ya know, gathering a few images for review.  Like I said, I already have the photographers for the first issue chosen. Evidently there are a few "suckers" out there wink

Sigh, the Internet, such a loving supportive place.  Lol...NOT

I'm not exploiting anyone.  What a ridiculous statement.
