I haven't dated in a few years and am jumping back on the wagon.

I AM SO CLUELESS ABOUT WHAT TO WEAR.

Is there a guidebook somewhere?

I was still wearing my hideous, neon blue, sweat-wicking work shirt and a pair of sweat pants when I went on the first date with the person I'm seeing. I think I might have put on some eyeliner or something in the rearview mirror, before I went to meet him. Didn't matter. I still had him in my bed three hours later. that was back in April. Met his family yesterday.

I seriously don't think dudes care about that stuff.

My last ex totally was way too observant about that stuff.

I guess I just want to be confident and feel good. And most of the looking good on a date is more for me to than the guy lol

I generally wear my favorite jeans that make my ass look great tongue, a pair of heels (not too tall but not wedge either), and a nice tailored blouse. "Natural" makeup with a pink lip and a light body mist.

Where either a tunic with leggings and flats/boots or a casual short sleeved dress with pumps or flats. Do something pretty with your hair-- my go to is big barrel curls, because my hair looks a lot shinier and it hides split ends like a mofo. For extra flair, I braid a few pieces near the front of my head, doing a small french braid for about an inch or two and then devolving to a regular braid, and wrap it around the back of my head and tuck the tail of the braid underneath a few strands of hair with a bobby pin. I wish I could explain that better, but it's really easy and I always get tons of compliments.

You want to look like you made an effort, but not gone totally out of your way. It's just a dude, it's not Jensen Ackles or Joe Manganiello tongue

Be yourself. You dont have to be fancy to look awesome- I'm a case in point in that. I dress like a freaking boy and i STILL get catcalls on the road.

I guess I just so rarely THINK about my appearance that when I do it's so foreign and unfamiliar and intimidating! I went shopping today and trying to put together outfits was harder than my graduate coursework for me!

In the South, proper attire for a lady is a must.  Particularly when a gentleman calls with a wagon.

I totally would!!! I am definitely not of the 'wear sweatpants and a tshirt' variety, especially on a first date. I feel like that's saying you don't give a shit about making an impression, because the whole point of dating is wanting to get to know someone, and wanting them to get to know you. And if you don't put your best foot forward on a first date, when the hell do you? When you're married with three kids and baby vomit on your shirt? Lol.

Also, if you're a truly pretty/physically attractive to someone, of course they'll think so whether you're all dolled up or dressed in holey sweatshirt and a ponytail. But I know first hand that I get hit on far more when I'm dressed up for something than when I'm just running out to Target in my favorite flipflops and pants that are like 5 inches too long and that I've just walked the excess length off (I would be ashamed to be seen in them, if I cared what random people in Target thought of me).

Dude this question is super hard to answer without the specifics of the date!!

If its formal enough, bandage dresses are amazing. They pull everything in place and turn any up and down body shape (like mine) into a curvaceous gold mine. And if you've already got the butt and boobs going for you then they truly do hold everything where it needs to be. They are basically the most awesome thing ever. Check some out:

For less formal dates I'd op for perfect jeans (the right length, style and colour for your body); for me that's navy blue, mid rise, skinny leg with high small pockets on the bum, with a plain white tshirt and skin coloured or nude heels.

I would look like I was auditioning for a porn movie, if I tried wearing something like that out in public.

Haha they obviously aren't for doing your grocery shopping in, but they are definitely my favourite style of evening dress of 2013. The one I have has thick straps, a medium/low back, and is a little above knee length. I'll find a photo...

dress with no bra

Me too-- because of how I'd look a little...hoochie... in a bandage dress (I have huge boobs, lol, they would be falling ouuuuuuuuuuuut), it's not something I'd wear on a first date-- I would opt for a dress works better for my body type-- which means I choose cleavage OR body hugging, but never both, because both at the same time make me look unintentionally trampy, and that's not a message I want to send on a first date XD

The dress I have in my closet that shows off everything exactly right is this one, but it's a little too wintery for right now (the photo is paired with fugly leggings and boots, ignore those, it was the only photo of it on google) https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos- … 4766_n.jpg

I would also wear any of the first three dresses on this page on a first date: http://what-she-found.tumblr.com/

Wow, I could not rock a bandage dress! I would be super self conscious of the length since I'm very conservative. They look great but I would constantly be tugging at the hem!!! Which ruins the whole look and draw attention to the length in a negative way.

The details of the date are fuzzy which is why I'm at a loss, it's basically a dinner date but I don't know where! So I just don't know the level of formality! I should post pics though. Hopefully roomies will help me.

I'm telling you, a dressy casual dress is best-- especially if you're more conservative in your style (this is how I am, I freak out if I show more than an inch of cleavage, lol XD). I wore a strapless cinched waist dress not too long ago, with a CARDIGAN and still felt like a stripper because my boobs were all over the place lol.

Also, of course there is a difference in attire when it's Pizza Hut & a movie vs a five star sit down restaurant, so find out details!

Is this the firefighter or someone else?  If someone else, who?  Since you have to guess, take a stab at how he would treat dinner based on his lifestyle.

Then err on the dressy side of that.

I think I can honestly say this is the first time I've thought purple hair worked for anyone who wasn't a cartoon.  big_smile

Also, before seeing the photos, I thought bandage was some chic fashion term that might be pronounced like "montage."

Really?  Do you find it hard to breathe, though?  Because it's hard to talk to a woman when she's looking at you like your corset isn't working on you, and I just don't think it's worth the trouble anymore.

lol

So, at first I went with the go-to little black dress- one of the more casual versions- with heels.

Then he texted me that he would be wearing a polo and cargo shorts because of the heat and I had to super quickly dress down to a skirt and nice top. Which sucked coz roomie had me looking AMAZING with her accessories to the little black dress.

This is not the firefighter- who I am NOT pursuing- he is super recently divorced with three kids way back in OH and he's super torn up because he was cheated on by the love of his life.

Not going near that- nor should I.

This guy was a personal trainer and massage therapist big_smile

Now on to date two today!

I would probably feel very self-conscious about my butt looking inappropriate in it. I don't like stretchy pants for that same reason. Everything bounces and shakes just a little more than I am comfortable with.

I already cant remember what shoes I went with. Wedges I think?

Today I looked awesome for date two.

And it was such a total dud.

He struggled for a word for me, clearly, and came up with eccentric.

I was like, "Awesome... you mean awesome."

Ugh!

I had a date like that a few weeks ago.  He had asked to see a photo of the magazine cover I got, and when I showed him he asked me if it bothered me that my work was 'salacious' and that I 'pandered to men' with my work.

Yeah.  That's not gonna work.

If he already hates my work, and thinks what I do is morally wrong, well...he certainly won't like my work in the future.  And he probably won't like me either.
