I solicited services TFP for anyone male or female who wanted to a "cause shoot". That being a shoot that protests some random societal injustice. Like PETA campaigns if you will. This person replied in a full blown harangue about trying to get folks to work for free. He even posted my post telling the CL world how much of an asshole I am. Has this ever happened to any of you?

The irony is I became his cause.

Almost as embarrassing as the time I got thrown out of Tassajara.

the troll obviously knows nothing about modeling OR causes. The photos would be just as useful to the model or causee. (yes I know its not a word.) If a person is into a cause deep enough to campaign it, photos like that would be very useful imagery to express the emotion behind what makes it their cause. Like when I see people with cancer ribbons. I know that they are either a very compassionate individual, or they lost someone/know someone who's battling it. It's a deep concept!

People that go through the trouble to type a whole paragraph complaining, then posting it is several places just need to get a life.

They could have politely declined, or just not responded at all.

I'm sure there is a model somewhere who would be very interested in your project, and would jump at the chance to do something like this - if for no other reason, just for the spirit of what you are doing....it just takes some searching sometimes.

Although I've paid models before (and will in the future), there are sometimes pet projects or just ideas I want to try, and TF opens up the door for this.
If your idea is interesting, there are plenty others that will take a serious look at working with you, so don't worry about the complainers.

And to answer your question, yes, its normal to get people complaining/accusing you about this.

I've read a few of those types of reposts and the majority of them are geared towards ridiculous offers (i.e., $200 for an 8 hour wedding with disc of all photos and all rights, or shooting a calendar for start up company for "exposure" with possibility of future paid assignments, or creating a company logo for $15, etc.)

Not saying your offer was like any of these, but these are the usual types of offers I've seen in the Creative Gigs section of Craigslist that gets those rant types of responses. I sometimes wonder if they're all written by the same individual. (lol)

Yep, I've been "educated" by pricks like that off of CL before.   No-life losers with a need to take their desperation out on someone and a lack of the balls to open their mouth like that in real life.  You probably made his day.

Funny, and true.

The overly controlling whine-bags on CL that police things beyond fraud are a real pain and in some areas have ruined the site for any models or photographers and many others.

Besides the 'technical issues' that abound within craigslist (CL), most users on CL seem to be a little 'off' so don't sweat it. I've had similar experiences for TFP shoots and even selling stuff on CL always gets its share of buyer flakes. It's CL and that should be enough of a warning.

This was my post.

Controversial Model to create a buzz (OC)

Looking for (male or female) models who want to create a stir (any age). This is not about porn or sex. It is about exposing hypocracy for the public good. It worked for PETA. Take a stand and make a statement. Dare to have your work be about more than boorish fashion or glamour. Who knows, it might even get you discovered. Serious Inquiries.
Location: OC

it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
Compensation: Maybe if you are a sellout.

I guess it would have been terribly disappointing to not come up with someone calling you an asshole on that one. I mean, what's a troll post without an aggrieved response.

You didn't really become his cause, I think you became his effect.
I wouldn't worry about what people say on craigslist. Just don't reply unless you want them to have your e-mail address. Also post anonymously when possible.

Craigslist has become a free soapbox for a lot of weirdos, very angry people and for creepers who otherwise have no life. I posted an ad not long ago, selling my refrigerator, and this guy out of nowhere kept emailing me saying the price is too high ($100 for a 5 year old stainless steel fridge ) and trying so hard to knock me down to $20 and deliver free to him. What a moron.

1/3 of the people on CL are nuts. 1/3 are just mean. I made up those stats, but I bet it's pretty close.

If everyone that gets flamed online would post it here, there would be no more room on the forums servers for the other threads wink

Thing is, it's very easy for anyone to sit behind his computer, not having the other person in his face, and shout anything and everything at them.

That's why there are so many flamers / trolls on any internet forums and social medias. I bet 98% of those people would not even have the courage to say very politely that they disagree with someone else in their face.

Anyone who would pay a model from a CL post needs their brain shaken. If you are going to pay a model, come here. Paying someone in that situation is plain silly.

People in general always seem to browse craigslist to just insult people and make a public spectacle out of them. I avoid craigslist as much as I can. It's just a pain because it always turns into some jerk who assumes every post on craigslist is a complete scam reposting your original post saying you're simply trying to take advantage of people.

It's not very clear what you are creating or what is expected.  The "maybe if you are a sellout" line seems needlessly antagonistic.

Where did you post it?

If you post under "jobs" you are supposed to offer wages.

If you post under "gigs" you can offer no pay/deferred pay/TFP.

In your defense, it's the internet and people are looking for things to be outraged about.  Ignore the cranks.
