Forget the rest of the article. Check the part near the bottom:

"Richardson has shot ad campaigns for top fashion houses from Tom Ford to Yves Saint Laurent and made a whopping $58 million between June 2012 and June 2013."

$58 million between June 2012 and June 2013. I'd like to know where and how they got those figures especially as the end of June was only a few weeks ago.
$4+ million a month ! that's a calculation of shooting 12 months of the year.

Those figures must come from the NTSB.

Well done Terry!

If you have the skills, connections and associated brand/market value, then it makes sense to exploit it while you can. Fashion is mega big business so the money is there.

You don't necessarily have to like him, but you've got to admit he's sitting in a very sweet spot indeed!

Call it a million a week.

Does that make sense for the cost of high end photography?

(I really have no idea)

If there paying it I'd have no problem.

Just about to draft a some letters (Tom Ford to Yves Saint Laurent)

Dear whoever it may concern,

I'm an average photographer but if you could hire me a great model(s), MUA's, stylist, assistants, camera, lighting, retouchers and a few more people just to hang around the hire studio I'm sure I could come up with some great images.

My fee would be reasonable only $1mill a week (I could bump it up another $20, 000 a week for lunches)  this would also help your tax loss..... better than handing the money over to the IRS.

I have a feeling that the total budget for those ad campaigns was $58 million dollars, he probably made maybe $5 million dollars, since we know that whatever the photographer gets is not likely to be 50% of the budget of a campaign, maybe 5% or 10% of the total budget. Either way good for him for making millions in one year.

Good for him If you can make that type of money. Why not making it then. Better than a lot of 9-5 jobs out here.

I wonder about those numbers as well, June just ended.  I am sure he does gross millions, I am sure he has investments that allow him to never have to worry about working again.  I am also sure he has a good accountant who would minimize his tax requirements and never show that kind of number as income or recomended he publish numbers.

richard learoyd's photographs sell for about $40,000 each.

and in my opinion, his photographs are meaningful.

Is this revenue or profit? Because if his expenses tops 57 million, he "just" makes 1 smile

I would guess that this number is a combination between royalties, book sales, stock photography, licensing all compounded over decades AND current photoshoots.

He does have a line of eyewear with Moscot.

If he bills for usage he may be getting revenue from old shoots still.

He's probably not making the bulk of that money from fashion shoots for American designers.

Foreign companies will pay a lot for his celebrity status.

If that's the case, it basically confirms you really have to do the opposite if everyone else is trying to produce "beautiful" images.  At all, "beauty" is merely an opinion.
