no, he didn't have worldwide succes, but neither do a lot of other artists. just because you're only known in your own country doesn't mean you're not succesful.

again, he's not a one trick pony. He had like 5 albums or something before gangnam, and was an established artist in his own country. what's so "one trick" about that?

For the most part, outside of Korea I don't think anyone who can say "gangnan style" can also name a second song by Psy. He was a local K-Pop guy.

That's all. I'm not trying to argue with you and I understand your point. I'm just trying to put things in perspective.

Now that Psy is famous world-wide, my question is if he will be able to come up with another hit to follow his famous gangnam song. None of his previous songs are riding on the coattails of his gangnan hit, are they?

please educate yourself

Psy (in case you didn't know: the singer of gangnam style) was already an established artist in his own country for like a decade before gangnam style broke through internationally

Gangnam style was a number 1 hit in dozens of countries across the world

The silly dance he does in the video has been copied by millions of people around the world, including Obama and Ban Ki-Moon (you know, the secretary-general of the UN). That same Ban Ki-Moon called the song a "force of world peace". It united people from all over the world and all layers of society in one song and one dance.

When the president of South-Korea was inaugurated, Psy performed Gangnam Style at the inauguration. He also performed on new year's eve, times square, for a live audience of a million people. He has performed all over the world.

The South Korean government has announced that "Gangnam Style" had brought in $13.4 million to the country’s audio sector
Gangnam style has had political influence through the shortfilm "gangnam for freedom, about freedom of expression, supported by HUGE coorporations like Amnesty International.

dislike the song as much as you want, but "those guys" did a lot.

I never said I hated the song...but all of this makes me go so what?

Just because the song was a hit that doesn't mean they will have a life long career.  MC Hammer made millions too...

my reply was in regards to the comment "I doubt those guys will be doing much". I never said anything about a lifelong career (and neither does the original quote I replied to).

okay, from a marketing perspective:

Miley is a brand. Well at least a brand in the making. And that brand used to be countrysinger-disneygirl-popsinger-cute and now she (well she and whole team of people) is rebranding as allgrownup-sexual-edgy-bigbooty-...

Even if she doesn't directly earn money everytime someone watches her music video, it still impacts her career in a way that it will most likely earn her a lot of money in the future, if she keeps this up. So this whole youtube thing and "what does it mean" and blabla... it means something.

haha, I'm not saying she actually has one big_smile. But she certainly thinks she has, she mentions it ALL the time. If you say something long enough, eventually people will start believing it. Not sure if it will work on the ass-front (because seriously, there's nothing there...) but I'm still curious to see if it will work smile

her twitter profile says "california face. with a down south rump". and the whole twerk thing... and posting pictures like this:

I'd say that is part if her trying to be something she's not. PSST Miley -- you're not gangsta, you're not from the hood and you're name ain't big booty Judy.

when I was her age (maybe a little younger) I had a "skater" period. With the baggy jeans and baggy sweaters and baggy shoes and skateboarding... When I look back at them now I go "omfg what was I thinking", and it's certainly not me (well, not anymore :p). But at the time, it felt like me.

experimenting with your look and making the necessary (stupid) mistakes is not an abnormal part of growing up

I believe this is part of her "branding"

I think she is a "poser" -- I don't know if they use that term anymore.

I thought Charlemagne had interesting perspective on Cyrus

If that is what you have to do to sell your brand then I don't know what to tell you

I think it is interesting to ask African Americans what they think of Miley Cyrus

Everyone wants what is 'popular'.

Ugh

This used to be in fashion/vogue, still is.
*not hating on anyone who has an ample, 'down south', park your beer on it ass.

'In vogue' meaning in style, not literally in Vogue Magazine.

My priorities are pretty fucked up, I guess. All I could think was that Miley needs to take a basic acting class. She gives such an insincere performance, it overshadows anything else in the video.

Also, I am asking this, not to be snarky, but because I don't have television...

The video, as I just watched it... is this to be shown on TV? MTV? And at what times of day?

I don't think MTV or any other channel has shown a music video since the Reagan administration.

It'll be on vevo.com, though.
