Hello everyone.
I've been searching the boards for rate information and details on how to keep the MUA industry held up to a high standard of pay for when I will set my non-bridal rates. When a member here asks "What should my rate be in the X area?" The common answer is research, research, research.
And that's my question: how does one go about that research, besides happening upon a MMer who happens to be in the same area? Often now, rates are not posted online - so do you email/call/contact as a business inquiry to find out the rate and that's it? Because it seems kind of sketchy to me.
Any feedback would be wonderful. :]

Not at all sketchy. Ask local artists who work at your level and also ones who whose work is a bit better what they charge. Be honest and tell them why you're asking. They will understand completely and will appreciate your desire to not undercut other artists.
