Makeup artists and continuning edcuation
I know many of you makeup artists spend a lot of time and energy and money making sure we have the best brushes, foundations, blush, eye shadows and more. Kevin's James Bennett's website www.inmykit.com is a amazing resource for that! But how much money are you really investing into being the best makeup artist you can be? Shouldn't continuing education be just as important as how much you spend to perfect your kit? My question is how much time and money do you spend on your education to insure that you are the very best makeup artist you can be? You have to be on top of you game and be at least one step ahead of the competition at all times just to have a chance at being a success. Sep 23 13 01:43 pm Link I'd say the education part is just as important like for example if a client ask you a question your not certain of you may to say I'll find out and get back to you& actually go to your sources and maybe do a little research about what they just asked you, on top of that they always new products and etc you have to learn about and how to apply it properly so yes education is an good investment Sep 25 13 10:52 am Link I fel that continuous education is VERY important. Rather you can go to workshops, go to a convention, or simply spend a few hours a week watching pros on YouTube...anything helps to stay on trend  . I still meet a lot of MUAs that don't know about the wonder that is Beauty So Clean or the importance of primers. Rather you use them or not I still feel like it's at least good to know they exists so that you can answer your client's questions about them. I'm extremely lucky in the fact that I work in the corporate office of a major beauty retailer. My job is literally recommending and reading about new products along with how to use them; because of that I don't really go to a lot of workshops. Sep 25 13 02:01 pm Link I wish I lived closer. How's the workshop looking? It would be awesome to pick KJB's brain in a small/intimate setting. He was great fun to run into at IMATS, but he was in high demand! The experience of being at one of his workshops and spending that one on one time with him is priceless! Its definately money well spent, the amount of knowledge you get from attending one of his workshops is worth at least 10 times the fee. If I had to go into debt to attend his workshop I would. Sometimes I think artists have their priorities out of order. They will spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on makeup and brushes (important I know) but won't invest the money to insure that they stay ahead of their competition by learning new skills and techniques to be an even better artist. You can spend thousands of dollars on product and brushes but unless you keep learning and improving your art you will always be that low budget makeup artist. The ones that spend the time and money to keep learning and improving are the ones that are marketable and get hired for the big budget jobs and projects! Sep 28 13 03:56 pm Link |
