I recently received this email from someone who contacted me via MM. Sounded a little fishy, so I wanted your opinion. The part that is fishy to me is the 2,450 dollar check that I get to the wardrobe people..

of course it a scam, read all the intro guides here 'cause you will get more. There is no possible viable reason why a legitimate employer would want to pay any party indirectly through another third party (you).

right, that's a little bit ridiculous. it's so annoying getting these things.
AND the fact that a lot of other people on here have gotten the same one

What they don't tell you is that their $2,450 check is going to bounce, and they are hoping that you will send $2,250 to the "wardrobes manager" before you find out that their check is no good.  Why can't they pay the wardrobes manager themselves; why do you have to pay their staff?  That's a clear indication that this is a scam.

Other indications:
...  It reads like a form letter; it is not personalized.
...  Top pros don't "hire" random models that they have never met.

Run away.  Or report it (especially if they are MM members) and run away.

It amazes me how many people don't just stop and think for a second. This is 2013 not 1913. If it sounds too good to be true....

Good luck OP. I suggest you take a little time to browse the forums here and read just how many people get scam/spam messages every day because of their presence here. Educate yourself.

Add...

Craigslist ads/MM ads that someone/ANYONE won't give their contact info for you to do 'due diligence'.

NO ONE is THAT awesome not to give you the professional courtesy of that.
Plus, anyone legit will talk to you on the phone, gladly give their contact info, meet you in person, etc.

Anyone hiding under a veiled alias and posting a big $ gig that you can't verify is too cheap to pay an agency (if you are signed to one) anyway.

Bastards

http://419eater.com.  They have perfected the art of "scamming the scammers".  It's fun to read about all of the torture they put these guys through.

The general rule is, if it sounds fishy, it probably is.
