Hi! I'm new to modeling....I'd love if anyone could look over my port and give me feedback...I'd really appreciate any ideas for shoots for me and what direction you think I should go in. (I don't know if I should focus on fitness, glamour, commercial). Or any ideas to add variety to my port. Thanks! Danielle Apr 10 14 07:50 pm Link Typically, you want variety in your portfolio. I see the same outfits used 2-3 times. Watch your smile. Relax it. No toothy gum lines. that makes it appear you are forcing the smile. Sometimes it works, but a more relaxed smile is often more pleasant. Practice in the mirror. Work with a variety of photographers. Apr 10 14 10:31 pm Link You need a good head shot. One that is light or no makeup and not retouched. We all know what makeup and photoshop can do. When someone is looking to hire you as a model, they want to see you... the real you. All the other stuff is fine and dandy but you should show at least one shot of who you are. To answer your question about what direction you should go in, you will get different answers from different people. In my opinion you should go for what you want. What makes you feel good. You said you have 20 years of dance. That would be a good photo shoot. I wish I was closer to Atlanta. I'd work with you in a heartbeat! Apr 11 14 01:56 am Link https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35500381 shows you off very well. It is a fine photo. Your pose is good and expression is very nice. Expression is largely bad at present. The smile generally doesn't look good. It may be natural but you need to work at producing something better. A trick to learn is to relate to the plane, the axis of the lens. Do you lean back or slightly forward if the lens is aiming up at you? Or don't do either? You should know this if you want people to pay you for enhancing their portfolios or even shooting for fun so you can help them get better photos. I think the Trent Chau shots are the photos that you did the best work in. Let's look at a photo where you had the opportunity to win and didn't: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35560128 The photographer really wanted to rock that. He lit it well. He may not have given you quite enough direction but you could have helped him. Look at your face and your hair. You could have put a really good expression on for him. Arranging your hair. Okay it is a car so it may appear hard. You could look directly into the lens or just above it with an expression that intrigues, captivates. You could have arrange your hair across the hood so it would lead directly to your face. Your hand is like some lifeless claw. You could have had done something more interesting. You did well on arranging your torso and legs. That photographer lit it well, shot it nice and what did he get with a beautiful background? You? Is that really you? Get serious. Practice in a mirror your expressive power and also poses so you can present a powerful experience with the way you connect with the camera. I hope this helps you. Apr 11 14 02:32 am Link Very new to modeling i have no experience what so ever. Id love to get feed back on my portfolio to see what i need to do to improve. Apr 12 14 08:13 pm Link Apr 12 14 08:26 pm Link OP: It looks like you are on the right track as far as what genres that you are interested in both from your post in this thread, and what you mention on your bio. The next step would be to diversify a bit more though to work with different photographers. Having too much of the same look in your port with the same outfit gets boring honestly. The one head shot that you currently have also has a great smile, but the editing is lacking honestly. I would suggest to find someone that is experienced in doing good clean head shots without funky editing as a next step also. good luck Apr 12 14 08:51 pm Link You have 4 good shots: Too over-processed but a good pose: The rest hide you, distort you or don't do you justice. Get rid of the platform shoes when wearing shorts, they bulk up your muscles (and the black boots, too). Watch how you place your legs. In the picture by the window, they are flexed AND you have them one in front of the other in such a way as to merge your thighs and make them both look larger. watch your surroundings. The extra large window makes you look shorter. Knee hides your waist Sweater hides you Both have great eye contact. A little heavy on the eye makeup. Awkward pose Just not a good shot - expression awkward, too. Boots are flexing your muscles and cutting off your legs in a bad place. NICE! You look tall No comment - remove Over-processed photo and fake, overly wide smile that almost doesn't look like a smile I like this one for your body lines and you long-looking legs. Hard to see your face. Great shot. You look long and lead and a great smile. Definitely do more shoots. you've got a lot to offer. Apr 14 14 07:15 pm Link Al of this falls under "erotic" if you ask me. And that's not a good thing. You've got the body for it, why not get some actual nudes, or implied nudes that are less "hood" and more "art".
