So I went to buy A Sony A7 and the Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8

I have seen some nice files from this combo, but not files than could address one lens issue LoCA (see here for an explanation of what it is  http://photographylife.com/what-is-chromatic-aberration.

So I bought my little rig to easily test for it.

While the Sony FE 55mm 1.8 is very nice, it did not do well at all with LoCA.

I decided against getting the Camera mainly for this reason and to a lesser extent due to the noisy shutter.

Felin a bit off I was about to leave when I saw they had a couple of Touit lenses. I took a look at them and did a few quick tests.

The 32mm 1.8 is remarkable. It has excellent LoCA control. Up there with the very best lenses Forward correction is almost 100% while there is only the slightest rear LoCA. This is simply amazing in such a small and relatively inexpensive lens. This little gem is really a minature Otus, no kidding.

Everything else is really good about it to. It's really light. The X-T1 with this lens on is perfectly balanced. AF apears to integrate with the X-T1 very well.
I have not tested tracking yet.

I'll post the test images later...

Have you tried the Fuji 35mm f/1.4? Most tests seem to confirm they're neck to neck in terms of center sharpness (though the Touit handily beats the Fuji in corner sharpness if that matters to you) with the Fuji providing more pleasing bokeh overall. And obviously there's the 2/3rd stop and shallower DoF advantage. Plus the benefits of getting timely firmware updates with future Fuji bodies, etc etc.

I'm sure there is a negligible difference between the two in real-world use, but considering I picked up the Fuji 35mm brand new for $450 two weeks ago...

I wonder how the Samyung glass fairs against this? I've read some very good results about their lenses.

From what I can tell LoCA is corrected better on the Zeiss Touit. It is non existent in the forward part of the Bokeh and practically non existent in the rear bokeh.

I have only seen it this clean with the Zeiss Otus.

On thursday I should be able to do a side by side test. I'll also test the FujiFilm at 1.8
next to the Zeiss.

Anyway Here is the difference between the

Zeiss Touit 32mm 1.8 on the X-T1
                 VS
Sony FE 55mm 1.8 on the Sony A7

The difference is huge. Stopping down the Sony 55mm to 2.8 reduces the size of the false color, but increases the contrast in the false color.

For example on a shirt with black and while fine threaded material that to the naked eye appears grey you will have problems. The forward bokeh fabric will have pink/magenta shift while the rear bokeh will shift green.

Found a LoCA test for the Fuji 35mm 1.4.

https://www.photozone.de/images/8Reviews/lenses/fuji_35_14/backfore.jpg
This is from the rear bokeh.

You can see that the black spades symbol goes green.

Here is another test at f2.

https://www.photozone.de/images/8Reviews/lenses/fuji_35_14/loca_f2.jpg

You can see the color shift.

I have seen this be a problem in the real world.

For example dark stubble of beard will shift to green if it is in the rear bokeh in a wide open shot with the subjects head turned a little.

For fashion a shirt with black and white pattern for fabric mesh. You will get false colors   in front and rear bokeh.

White shirt especially with rim light. the edge of the shirt against the background will have pink or green fringing. However this type of fringing is easier to remove in post.
Fringing on hard edges is easier to remove.... with ACR that is. Fringing removal with Capture One is far inferior, and only removed purple fringing... go figure.....

Purple Green hard edge fringing removal with ACR vs Capture One.

ACR correction

Capture One Correction

While this is an easier fringing to remove you can see that ACR does it perfectly
while Capture one still has residual purple fringing and does nothing for the green.

This is easy because it is black against white. This is much harder to correct when it's
involves skin or is in the blurrier part of the bokeh.

I bought the Touit  12mm and 32 mm Because B&H prices looks great if you get both lenses at the same time...I am not technically savvy and for what I do
it does not really matter but, having 2 Zeiss lenses sounded cool.
I have no problem they are fine, but one thing drives me nut, it is the aperture ring on both lenses it can be switched from A to 22 all the way to the widest
aperture without hardly been aware of it! Can this be fixed?

Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 is very sharp, good contrast and tonal/colour range... sits on my A7r most of the time.

The 32 doesn't work on FF, right?

I missed out on the big Zeiss 1/2 off sale B&H had in June. It ended early due to the demand. Sad face.
