Hi y'all

So I have a question to you guys: which direction can I still choose to do since I don't seem to fit anything really. I am currently working as a hairmodel but frankly, I don't like it that much...

Fashion: not the right sizes (86/68/96)
Commercial: not a commercial face
Lingerie: short hair
Nude/fetish: Can't do that because of profession

What is still out there for me?

I don't understand why your hair length matters at all. They make wigs. smile

yup. Most of glamour is about creating an ideal through illusion anyway. It's not about reality.

Oh sorry; I had to answer on that one:

Beauty/glamour; I have Jewish features (to say it gently) which isn't much appreciated in that industry either. Not a classical face... I actually hear a lot that I look like an androgyne model cause I have such masculine features.

Have you considered fit and promo modelling?

Just my $0.02 etc. etc.

Well they are certainly better paid than most modelling gigs for photographers is for sure.

But to the op I'd say that you have a good Art and Fashion crossover and models like that appear hard to come by. You have fantastic pose repertoire and you have an edgy cool look in all your pictures. So keep doing what you are doing. The right photographers will recognize what you are offering as phenomenal.

you shouldn't put too much thought into that. I have a "strong," somewhat androgynous face as well. Once the hair extensions are in, the fake eyelashes, the bright red lips, you become softer looking. Being"feminine" in one's features is often something women put on with cosmetic processes. We MAKE ourselves look more feminine, based on how we are groomed. Most women have a certain element of androgyny to their looks until the nails are done, the eyes are make up, the jewelry is in place. Like I said, it's about the illusion of appeal, not the day to day.

I see you have one nude in your portfolio here. Can you do conservative art nudes? In lots of them, the identity of the model isn't particularly important.

You can also consider doing some life drawing classes. Some model friends used to find them great fun.

Another model I know used to work with a sculptor. He'd mold parts of her body, sometimes including bits of her face, and then use the molds to create statues. She loved working with him, even though she did say staying still for the molding was sometimes a bit awkward.

Anyway, there are so many things an enterprising model can do, I can't believe that someone with your looks would have any trouble.

AnnemiekdenB while I don't work in your market I can share that in my market promo modelling is indeed a viable option... I also have several colleagues in NYC who have turned to this with considerable success...

This typically requires good communicational skills... and a beauty pageant smile is certainly a plus...

As for career path? I've know one talent who became a brand ambassador for a product line and her revenue stream is now rather considerable...  besides the working conditions are more "real-world" a.k.a. nine to five but weekends can be the norm... think retail lifestyle here...

All the best on your journey...

Hoi Annemiek!

I am dealing with a bit of the same troubles.. Not seeming to fit in ANYWHERE. It can be an ass. I am very suitable for lingerie until I decided to cut my hair short.. Looked epic but China did not like it. So, I moved on to other options (and extensions, now).

Promotional modelling can be a lot of fun. I like that I can interact with the public (and hug Chinese babies all day). You have the chance to meet a lot of people (whether they're useful for later depends on the job); I've gotten to know a lot of business contacts which are definitely worth keeping, and you get to work on people skills. Yay!

And of course, in the mean time, keep on testing with photographers, claim your niche! You look amazing the way you do now, you know exactly how to pose and work your look (androgeniousness! Love it btw), so use it to your advantage.

Best of luck to you!

groetjes,
Doris

Well...you're sort of amazing, so, anything you want.

"Europe" has a certain look, I guess.  Damn those Slavs, huh?  But if you ever found yourself in LA you would be a phenom with your looks.  The stuff you consider "not commercial" would be very marketable in a different market.   Yellow fish may not stand out in a tank of yellow fish, but enter a pool of silver fish and you can't help by stand out.  You DO stand out.

So, can you simply approach international agencies? Or does that need to go through a mother agency?
