Hi,

Ive also wondered were the line between cosplay and fetish is, (but suspect that it is similar to the line between nude and fetish in that it is in the intent or view of the pbotographer.)

Ive also wondered, in trying not to completely dismiss, Steampunk and pinup as being just cosplay.

Cosplay is a specific genre.

I guess this post answered my own question if It is or isnt fetish.

I love cosplay but I don't fit very many characters (I'm more of an anime fan).

Never did it and never will.
I feel that anything I do on that genre will come out tacky no matter what.
And I didn't see any tangible benefit doing it.

Most of my work currently is cosplay, I always have fun with the shoots and it prepares me to make the next step towards other photo shoots too.

We used to have a Cosplay/Photography "meetup" group, that I attended once, and shot some cosplayers at a comic book show.  Great fun, but it's like any other genre, getting everybody together to do it is like herding cats.

I've done tons of cosplay shoots. Most of the time they're scheduled on site at conventions, when it's easiest to collaborate with out-of-state photographers. Otherwise, locally it's just as fun. Options for different outdoor/environment is easier to come by than off-site from a hotel.

Some of my best costumed images are from conventions though!

I love doing Cosplay shots... but mostly, I recruit top talent and then ask them to work with me on productions elsewhere.

Con photography is definitely a form of "drawing restraint" in which you have to be creative with a very large number of restrictions.

I figure with photography as a medium, and nerdiness as inspiration, it is better to work on stuff outside of a convention hall
