A few may know me as Jasmine Jordon. I joined about a month ago. As you can probably tell by my profile, I'm in the process of building my portfolio. After much thought, I'd like to focus on pinup, lingerie, body paint and nudes. Now with that in mind, I wanted my name to reflect my choices, and while Jasmine is a lovely name, it just wasn't there for me. Therefore, as I do with everything, I started my research. I tried all the name generators, I googled famous pinup and roller derby names, and I read older MM forum posts regarding pinup names.
I decided I wanted my name to have something:
a. personally meaningful
b. kind of unique, but also familiar
c. that didn't show up in any google search
d. catchy or at least fun to say

I came up with a few, and with the help of my Big Buddy (who's awesome by the way), I picked one!

Bambi Le Bam! It meets every criteria in my list! I love it!
What do y'all think? Did we do good?

Did I choose a good time in my career to change it? Is there ever a good time to change your name?

Not very fond of it. Sounds like something a 6 year old would come up with. Sorry.
Whatever you come up with, make changes early in your career and stick with it.

I love your new name.

It is totally over the top and entirely memorable.

It has onomatopoeia, rhythm, and pizzazz!

You could have paid a PR firm $10,000 and they would not have come up with something better.

To be completely honest, I kind of hate "scene names," and much prefer names that sound like something that could, possibly, be a real name. I used an obviously fake name for about 6 years, and I thought it was dumb, but I had already booked work under that name, and been credited under that name for so long that's what people knew me as, and I felt stuck with it. I took close to two years off, and changed my name during that time.

Every now and then, someone contacts me and asks, "Are you that ShivaKitty girl from 5 years ago? Why did you change your name?" My response: "Because it sounded really stupid."

It fits an alternative, showgirl, pinup, cheesecake model and in that respect I think it's wonderful! It would have me a bit confused if you were going for edgy fashion, commercial beauty work and the like but I don't judge models on names.

I think it sounds silly. I like "Bambi" but think you can do something better with "Le ____"

Thanks! That's what I was going for! Companies have used alliteration for years when branding to make them stand out. I used the same principle.

Thank you! I agree.. had I chosen to pursue a different type of modeling it wouldn't fit!

I'd been kinda interested in working with ShivaKitty but other things got in the way and she disappeared; Koryn seems interesting as well, but it's now a different world.  If the connection is true, though, it proves that few - once they've entered here - can leave it behind under whatever name.

"Le" names are over done in pin up. Also stay away from "Von."

Sounds like what once once, and maybe still is called a stripper name. I have no problem with the name, nor the fact that it sounds like a stripper name or even with strippers. That's just what it sounds like.

Yeah, bro, a legend in my own mind.

I still do the same type of work I did back then. I just market myself differently. It's been a good decision on my end, where profits are concerned. Especially since the fetish content model market has shrank so much since I "retired" in 2011.

I think it's catchy, and I'd like to mention that I admire the time and effort you put into researching how to pick an appropriate name for your target market!  It's also great that you thought to check to see who, if anyone, comes up when you google the name.

Welcome to MM and good luck!

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to respond.  It's great to have a place to bounce ideas of other people, even when the opinions are different than mine. smile
