Got a message on here the day someone signed up and they deactivated their account shortly after.
She told me to email a "Letty Pitt" with BC HYDRO SOLUTION to have a paid shoot with them.
The emails were kind of confusing and they overnight shipped a check for me where the amount did not match up to what I was told. They tehn texted me to deposit it in 24 hours.

I call the bank the check was made through, its a scam.
The last groupof numbers at the bottom of the check should match the top right corner numbers(the check number)******************

The return address is for a Lisa Bodell from Futurethink in New York. the bank from Caifornia and the check was a business check with New Creation Engineering & Builders INC DBA New Creationbuilders in Bellflower CA

The shoot was supposedly to be set up with Hello Magazine

Sounds like the OP was already a "leg up" on the scammers.  Gotta love a model that keeps her head and looks out for herself.

Yes, MM admins caught the scammer and canceled the account.

They wanted you to forward some of the money to a third party, right?  When the check bounced, your bank would have required you to make good on the full amount.

The scammers target new profiles and members that list their contact info on their profile. It is best if members do not list the private email or social networking pages because the scammers use that to contact you outside of MM.

If you keep messages strickly via MM messaging it gives us evidence to use (we will ask you to flag and share the PM's with the mods/admins) when shutting the account down.

If an account is deactivated due to scamming, then the system should automatically send emails to everyone that was messaged saying its a scam.
All it takes is one new and naive model who hasn't yet seen the video or read the articles to make the scammers effort worthwhile.

IF the scam offers were made through MM's private messaging system and not through your email please contat a moderator at www.modelmayhem.com/contactamod .  You should copy and paste the message that your received and also mention the account name and/or number.

The gatekeepers catch a vast majority of the scammers that are trying to obtain accounts, but just lke cops trying to catch criminals, there are scammers that slip through.  When a scammer is reported through the contactamod feature their account will be shut down within a very short time.  Not only that but we often can catch many other scammers at the same time.

If the offer was made from an outside source (ie: via email) there is little or nothing that MM can do.

I'm all for that.
At one time or another in the past I've alerted people that seemed to have been falling for a nigerian scam, but they would rarely heed the warning.  I guess their egos got in the way, which is what makes the scams keep going.  I didn't do it often... probably can count the number of times on two hands and still have fingers left over.

There probably would be legal liabilities if MM stated that a certain account is a scam so that's probably not a great idea, however I think a message that states "This Account has been removed by MM Administration" would practically serve the same purpose... especially because I've seen that soooo many of the victims think that the scammer closed down the account themselves.

Thank God for this thread. I just received the fake check from "Letty' and thought it suspicious that she never seems to reply to any of my questions about the shoot or why I'm in charge of paying the team......so I did some research and found this.
Once again, thank you. MM lesson learned!

Wow! I just got a message from them also but now they are using the name Lori Jet! I didn't understand anything about how the payment would have worked out. It was quite confusing and they wouldn't answer ANY of the questions I asked. Glad I found this and can avoid it!

can you "flag" that PM for us?

Please use the new "Flag this PM/Sender" feature found at the bottom of the message.
That even gives you the option to include the message that was sent to you so that we can take a look at that as well.

I too got a message like this. I only sent in my name and address. But I didn't send in any other information that would be valuable because I have seen this before. Thanks for the information.

Hey girls-
I think someone is at it again!!
I just got an email from a Samantha Lynne Gross asking me about a paid shoot.  She told me to contact Anne Jet, and the email address was at tenno concepts.  I thought it was strange that Samantha just created her account today, but she has VIP written on her profile, so I thought it couldn't be a scam account..  Just to be sure, I googed the "tennoconcepts" email address that i was told to contact them at, and this page came up reporting a scam!!
I will now know to ignore ay future contact from these people and will report it

This scam is still going on! I got a message on model mayhem to email [email protected] referencing Anne Jet. Today I received an email with telltale scam signs of bad grammar and no space characters after periods. It said I would be mailed part payment. I am to deduct $500 from the payment and send the remaining balance to the wardrobe stylist.

This is a common thing for scammers to do: send a bad check for a higher amount and have the recipient deduct a fee and send, usually via Western Union, a remaining balance to the scammer. But the original check will never go through, so the recipient will be out the amount sent out, in addition to bad check fees.

You should never have given therm your email, or replied to theirs! Expect a bunch more, now.
