So I've been slowly plugging away at my portfolio for a little over six months (I started modeling about a year ago, completely on a whim) and have finally filled it out to the magic 15. I would love any constructive feedback on my profile as a whole - how am I doing so far? Strengths/weaknesses? I will acknowledge that I've had a hard time in the beginning looking natural in front of the camera which is probably reflected in some of my expressions, but I'm gradually getting more comfortable with just "letting go." Any advice is appreciated! Aug 08 14 05:35 am Link Certainly an interesting and diverse set of images.Nice work overall.Maybe you can add some shots with a "lighter" mood or some smiles here and there.Just my thought.I don't really know how you like to market yourself primarily. However I appreciate your look and skill. I think most of the skill so far has been on the part of the photographers who have been so patient in allowing me to come out of my shell. But it's good to know I'm on the right track. As far as "marketing" myself, like it says in my profile I lean towards edgy, artsy looks and I have the tomboyish thing going on with my hair. So I guess I am succeeding in that area. I do have one shot where I'm smiling, but it was too "squeaky clean" for the rest of the portfolio and too much like a traditional boudoir shot, so I left it out...I put it back in just now though if you wanted to take a look. Thanks for your input! Aug 08 14 11:05 am Link Heck of a start - Diverse and showing a wide range of images - (and I like the smiling one - it's a nice addition) You are bold and very attractive. It's all good... I would only suggest a couple of things - one is that most all of your images contain just you in the frame - there are few shots of you in a location, or interesting environment - interacting with what is around you. I'd love to see you in some "great spaces" Also, your hair is really distinctive and that is well and good - but, you might consider trying some shots with different hair colors and wigs. I suspect that your images will look like a totally different and awesome person with different hair colors and lengths. (This is not a knock on what you have now - but, some models are like shape-changers with different hairstyles - and I suspect you could be one of them) Aug 08 14 11:25 am Link Based on some of your nudes 3 of which are wonderful btw.... I would for sure want to find a way to work with you! Aug 08 14 11:26 am Link Hooray! So glad the look is starting to come together. As far as environment shots, I have been waiting to do a NYC streets shoot with a photographer for some time, so those will be a great addition I'm sure. So the smiling boudoir-y one should stay? Any other things I need to work on? The wig thing is a fun idea by the way, I just have a feeling I would have to get really costume-d up for it to look realistic, my short hair is such an integral part of my look I think any other style might look jarring...but I can always try! Anyone else want to weigh in? Aug 08 14 12:09 pm Link I would like to see some androgynous stuff from you if you're at all interest in checking that out. Definitely some fashion work and avant garde. Keep at it! Aug 08 14 12:55 pm Link I really like the one with the ropes... You are doing very good for a noob! Aug 08 14 01:14 pm Link I shoot with a few androgynous models, really opens a lot of creative doors as far as artistic avenues . . . your look comes off very well in front of the camera, any trepidation you may have had at the beginning seems to have melted away . . . natural, with lots of attitude . . . as to what to add, I think you should add, maybe some images shot in the south, like maybe in Florida . . . how soon can ya be here . . . Much continued success, and enjoy!!!! SOS Aug 08 14 01:29 pm Link Marin Photography NYC wrote: +1 Aug 08 14 07:23 pm Link Thanks all! Anyone have any image-specific criticisms? Or do all the shots more or less flow? Aug 08 14 11:20 pm Link Aug 09 14 06:47 am Link Thanks for your input! One last thing, I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on this particular shot...it was suggested that I nix the boudoir/smiley shot since it stylistically doesn't fit too well with the rest of my work. I did a for-fun shoot with a friend where we messed around with some lighting and silhouette work, and I particularly liked this shot...but again, it was a casual shoot so I'm not sure if the quality is up to par and/or if it works in conjunction with my portfolio as a whole. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36658373 Thoughts? Aug 11 14 07:30 am Link That link doesn't work for me, can you check it again? Aug 14 14 08:00 am Link I think you're doing very well as the model and the locations and lighting are good. One thing that does bother me, and this may just be my OCD, is that many of the crops feel too tight and a little awkward. Cutting of just little bits and pieces of body parts sometime or putting your head fully in the frame but just too close to the border. By the way...love your moniker! greg Aug 14 14 08:36 am Link Sad Movie Photography wrote: Sorry...I spoke a bit too soon and was only looking at the thumbnails.
