Bárðarbunga volcano erupting - Iceland
Bárðarbunga volcano erupting (sub glacial so far) Last eruption in 1794 Fissure eruptions are also a feature that Bárðarbunga volcano has (picture 15 to 20 miles of lava fountains) Live webcams http://www.ruv.is/frett/live-webcam-of- … ga-volcano http://www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/bardarbunga http://www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/bardarbunga-2/ 25 km long dike formed http://www.ruv.is/frett/met-office-25-k … ike-formed Possible volcanic eruption at Bardarbunga http://www.ruv.is/frett/possible-volcan … ardarbunga "one of Iceland's most dangerous volcanoes, has been showing intense seismic activity since last Saturday" Iceland volcano: Eruption under ice-cap sparks red alert http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28913165 Small eruption near Bardarbunga http://www.ruv.is/frett/small-eruption-near-bardarbunga "A small sub-glacial volcanic eruption has started near Bardarbunga volcano, under the icecap of Dyngjujökull glacier" Volcanic summer in Iceland http://volcanocafe.wordpress.com/2014/0 … d-part-ii/ "The Bárdarbunga volcanic system is the largest in Iceland and it has erupted more lava than any other volcano on the planet in the last 10 000 years. The volcanic system is 200 kilometers long and 25 kilometers wide." Bardarbunga Caldera (large images) https://volcanocafe.files.wordpress.com … aldera.jpg http://volcanocafe.files.wordpress.com/ … g_7264.jpg Aug 23 14 08:32 am Link it hasnt actually started to erupt yet,as the magma seems to be moving to a dike away from the calsera, but yeah, this has fissure eruption written all over it and could be a big one.lets pray this one doesn't get as bad as potentially this one cand go...it has had some VEI 6 and at least 1 7 in its history Aug 23 14 09:20 am Link You better be ready for some global cooling if there's a VEI 6+ eruption! Aug 24 14 08:25 pm Link Bárdarbunga volcano update http://www.volcanodiscovery.com/bardarb … date-.html Magma continues to migrate north along dike. Iceland prepares for "volcano from hell" http://news.yahoo.com/iceland-prepares- … 41881.html Aug 26 14 04:43 am Link Seems to be heading twards one of those volcanoes with a name that you run your fingers across your keyboard and add jokul at the end... To be honest I'd rather it come out there than if the entire dike splits open(like what happened at Laki in 1783...VEI 6... The plume drifted over the UK and france and the gasses killed like 10,000 people there and the ensuing winter was so fucked up that there was ice on Lake Ponchetrain LA so we kinda don't need a repeat of Laki Aug 26 14 05:08 pm Link Well scientists have figured out how big this can be...as they have guestimated the volume of magma on the move is in the solid VEI 5-6 range depending on how explosive it is.... Not what we wanted to hear Aug 27 14 11:55 am Link The eruption is official - a fissure opened during the night. Newly formed crevasses were spotted in surveillance flyovers by scientists yesterday and at that time geophysicist Magnús Tumi Guðmundsson estimated that the magma intrusion which had been monitored for the previous week was moving only 2 kilometres under the surface." Lava fountains 30 meters high -- height of a 10 story building Aug 31 14 06:25 am Link As long as it erupts in these lava fields it will be a benign Hawaiian styled red eruption that would be more a tourist attraction than anything else...heck,like I said, let the fissues open to 10 km...and let it flow into the sea,as long as it stays red and somewhat liquid, its kinda harmless Aug 31 14 10:31 am Link Ramping up Video of Lava at Eruption Site http://icelandreview.com/news/2014/08/3 … ption-site link to Aukinn kraftur í eldgosinu - Myndskeið http://www.ruv.is/frett/aukinn-kraftur- … -myndskeid here http://www.ruv.is/frett/magnadar-hraunm … holuhrauni Eruption Area: New Cracks in Bárðarbunga http://icelandreview.com/news/2014/08/3 … ardarbunga "New cracks have formed in the ice over Bárðarbunga, according to journalist and pilot Ómar Ragnarsson, who flew over the area this afternoon. Aug 31 14 10:12 pm Link Instinct Images wrote: There is a fuckton of magma that wants to come out(if it came out exposively it would be vei 5-6) Sep 01 14 11:56 am Link Deeply buried solid minerals undergoing a change in pressure - for example a pressure reduction because of the eruption - can change state going from solid to liquid and change size in the process. Water Ice is unusual in that it expands when it freezes. Most things expand when they melt. The change of state can create a larger volume of magma (compared to the source rock) and continue to power the eruption, even while ignoring the gas content. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iceland's Bardabunga Volcano Puts on Breathtaking Lava Display http://mashable.com/2014/09/01/icelands … a-display/ "the flow rate of lava from the ground is about half that of Niagara Falls."
