Okay, ready? Here's the question:

Have you ever tried Harry's?

https://www.harrys.com/

or Dollar Shave Club?

http://www.dollarshaveclub.com/

or Gillette by subscription?

I have a friend that does Dollar Shave Club, and he recommends it. Apparently they have a razor that's like unisex so maybe we'll sign up for it when we run out of our current, expensive razors.

I have a lot of friends using dollar shave club that seem to be quite satisfied by it.

This puzzles me - I've never felt that the costs of shaving are all that oppressive.

On a yearly basis - I may spend more on sandwich condiments than razors - can you really save THAT much?.

Now, I DO understand getting the right razor - one that works for you.

But, I never considered the huge need to go outside of the normal commercial channels for this item.

You go to the store and
*Milk
Salad makings
cat food
bread
razors
Coffee Mate
juice
Yogurt*

You don't understand the difference between paying $5 for a razor and paying $1?

Of all the things to worry about running out of staples that I use regularly does not make the list.
Keep two packages in stock and when I open the second one I buy another.
I go to the super market once or twice a week and always check for sales so I am more likely to have three or more packages than one. Same for other non perishable items.

I was going to give them a try but decided on the DE safety razor route.

Why are you always trying to pick a fight? hmm

I know perfectly the difference between 5 dollars and one dollar - I've done nothing to you to deserve that level of snark.

I don't use 3 razors a day - I clearly stated that I spend very little now - so what's in it for me?

Will joining one of these groups, drop my crushing 25 dollars a year I spend on razors -  to 23.50?

Calm down, Banjo. I'm not picking a fight. It was a question. You said you were "puzzled." I was trying to figure out what was so bemusing about it.

Okie dokie.

Your figures were a little inaccurate but math is hard.

I use the cheap ones that cost like $2.50 for a dozen. Sure there's a difference, but the cheap ones trim my beard with no issues.

Simple answer is some people shave more than others. When I was shooting I had to shave everything every day/every other day. Thats a lot of shaving.

The more you use it the faster your blades dull, and where razor burn or missed spots or stubble is just a mild annoyance to most people, as a model I CANNOT show up on set like that unless I want them starting a rant thread about how unprofessional I was by the time I get home. Where for most people "good enough" works, for me and many others…it just doenst cut it.

Gillettes Mach-whatever are considered the best razors, but their blades are 25+ per 4 pack. Thats not 25 bucks a year, thats 25 bucks every month or 2 months. Thats a lot of money. So yeah, for people like that, one of those clubs would be very useful, IF their blades live up to their claims of being comparable to the expensive mens razors.

Its not as easy as "just buying the cheaper razors then" as a lot of people tell us to do. A cheaper razor often means a shittier shave, means we show up looking fucking butchered.

I shave infrequently so I can't imagine it would be worth it to me.  A six pack of Gilette Mach WhateverthefuckIbuy lasts me a year.

I'm also not much of a bargain hunter so I tend to buy whatever I'm used to and whatever is easiest to get.

I personally have found that the 4 packs of Bics https://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl0/2/20652/04_2008/BicSoleil.jpg work just as well for me as the gillette mach whatevers, and they're a lot cheaper. But I know that what works for my skin/hair is not what works for others.

I had a one-time amazing shave from one of the super super cheap 2-blade disposables that i picked up in a hotel convenience shop and was stunned. So I tried it again and cut myself like crazy, I dont know what kind of black magic happened the first time to make it so great, it was seriously one of the best shaves Ive ever managed. The Bic ones I posted above are the cheapest I'll go for anything other than my legs and pits.

It's your condescension.  It's constant.  Being puzzled is not the same as not knowing.  Be a little more restrained about things...it's the adult thing to do.

You should, since the Zappa album cover depicts a man shaving with a weasel.

I use the Dollar Shave club.  It costs me $3 a month and I get a pack of 5 blades a month.  They are decent blades and I can change them out each week with no worries about loss of quality.  The same kind of blades would cost me over $8 at WalMart for a 4 pack.

I recommend them.

If I shave, versus choosing a crème or wax removal, I usually use the single or double cheapie, not quad action or fancy swankiness. It seems to be too much for me.
