It's so obvious.  Why do people keep falling for this?  Why do people think that this is newsworthy?

It's almost discouraging, really. I can't even get excited to open new modeling offers in my inbox anymore if none of them ever pan out. sad

It is discouraging.  These scams (and other obnoxious stuff) come more often to new members.

I see that you do not have your email address in your profile so did this scam come from a MM account?  You should report it here:

First, thank you for not mentioning the name of the user in your post.  That would be outing and would be against the rules.  So long as we are just talking about the scam and not directly mentioning other members, we can discuss it here.

Secondly, if you did, in fact, get this message from an MM member, we'd like to know about it.  We crack down on scams very quickly when we learn about them.

Please send us a message through the "Contact a Moderator" system.   You can Contact a moderator by clicking the "help" button in the upper right hand corner of your screen.   From there, just click "Contact a Moderator."

To make it easier for you, you can also just CLICK HERE and tell us who the member is and we can research the situation.

Thank you again for not mentioning their name or number in the forums.

Not until MM decides to make all newbies read that "Learn about scams" and pass the quizz before their profiles approved. This will happens everyday until the Sun burns up all it's hydrogen.

lol all we can do is look out for ourselves and each other and just bring awareness to scams like this. Not trying to be funny, but some people would actually get excited and fall for it, believe it or not.

I've talked one or two newbie models down off that ledge, and I talked to one who actually went through with it, much to the detriment of her college fund...

I've had experience helping keep models out of situations like this. Between supposed "managers" and the fictitious companies running this kind of game, it's a wonder anyone stays in the business.

The biggest tell tale sign on this one is the horrible grammar. From the very first sentence " I'm happy to received your message of being interested in this
upcoming photo shoot that will be holding by Maven cosmetics." NO reputable company would allow a communication of this sort to go out. REAL corporations have people who proofread responses. Not to mention, the vast majority of them will contact an agency to handle details like finding models.

Your best line of defense is your own common sense. If you read an email that sounds like it was written by a third grader who doesn't speak English, that should set off the warning signals. The "We're going to cut you a big check, and then you give the rest to someone else" is one of the oldest scams out there.

I know that sometimes when you talk to someone about a modeling job, they point out all the things that can go wrong, and it can be depressing. But you should always talk it over with someone. If you don't have a family member who is supportive, then find someone on here you can trust. But your best resource is to use your head.

I am a "newbie" to MM and modeling etc. and i fell for this scam. If it wasn't for this post i would have gone to NY with my bf on March 25/26th and i would have probably gotten me and my bf in a lot of danger. Thank you for whoever posted this and the amount of stupidity i feel from falling for it is so extreme that i don't even know what to do to with myself.
Live and learn i guess. Im so stupid -_,-

Sadly, there is a legit company that has a Maven line of cosmetics.

It would be a real shame if they were hurt by the scammer using their product line in his/her scam scheme.
