Earlier this year, I cancelled my G+ account, and whittled down my FB "friend" list from several thousand to a small (250-ish) collection of long-time IRL friends, former cow orkers, and immediate family. I'm heading in the entirely-opposite direction: the *very last* thing I need is MORE social media in my life, and I don't give a rat's ass if they're promising free pizza and beer delivered to my door every day as an incentive to join (let alone highly-suspect promises of ad-free-and-privacy-respecting networking)... no thanks. I'm good. If Ello turns out to be popular enough to overtake FB, I might switch to them and dump FB. But I doubt that'll happen anytime soon, if ever. hmm

Aaaaaand in almost no time at all, I am now seeing posts and tweets from all sorts of people who apparently are in love with this place, so I suppose I have to take all of this back and start panhandling for invite. <grumble> hmm

Love their manifesto:
-----

Your social network is owned by advertisers.

Every post you share, every friend you make and every link you follow is tracked, recorded and converted into data. Advertisers buy your data so they can show you more ads. You are the product that’s bought and sold.

We believe there is a better way. We believe in audacity. We believe in beauty, simplicity and transparency. We believe that the people who make things and the people who use them should be in partnership.

We believe a social network can be a tool for empowerment. Not a tool to deceive, coerce and manipulate — but a place to connect, create and celebrate life.

You are not a product.

-----
However how would they stay cash positive... Ah, the NSA.

Esperanto begins with "e", too.  Coincidence, I think not.

Isn't their plan to sell the user base when it hits a certain number of users??? Arent they emulating the Facebook model, but more efficiently? I don't get it.

Their plan is to keep basic service free, but sell premium features for a few dollars, to those folks that want to customize or enhance their experience. They swear, they will never sell their user data, nor will they host ads on their network, like Facebook does.

By the way, I've compiled a list of over 300 models on Ello.

Another Ello user compiled a list of photographers on Ello, but not all of those photographers are model photographers.

You can find links to these lists (and others) on my website:

It's going to be the same as P2P video games.

You have 100 friends, unlock the 500 friends pack for $4.99!

You have messaged 100 people, unlock another 500 messages for $9.99!

I did a recent blog post on Ello.co if you want to get the lowdown:
http://modelmelissakat.blogspot.com/201 … o-can.html

I really like it! You can post adult content, GIFS, etc. ... it is a site for freedom, but has been classified as a social site via the media. It is a site geared towards artists. It is great for a nice browse and discovering new artists.
