What really stands out for me in the new Star Wars trailer is the shocking lack of lens flares.

I watched the new trailer with my son this morning. We are really looking forward to the film.  They put it in the right hands in my opinion when they turned it over to JJ Abrams. I loved the Star Trek re-boots.

The scene with the X-wings hooked me.  I had some doubts because of that rolling droid and the boxy speeder bike, but the new stormtrooper outfits and the Millenium Falcon also convinced me this will at the very least be visually worth watching.

They're still mucking about with the millenium falcon?

Either Han is still conducting missions in his 70's, or else he sold his "bucket of bolts" to the rebels for posterity...

Looks... interesting.

Hopefully more Jawas and Sandpeople-- with no Ewoks and Binkses...

It's subtle, but still definitely there.  At 1:04:

I wonder if there is going to be a story to this like the first 2 releases or whether it's just going to be an overly loud special effects extravaganza just because they can do the special effects.

I get that they put it out a year early to generate hype but geez look at all comments.

One troll turned it into a race debate. It's fucking Star Wars not Ferguson..

Also the nerds arguing were funny.

You know one thing bugged me after ROTJ......

Darthy daddy is dead, Emperor grumpy is dead, but where did all those troops go and all the ships? Surely they just didn't all go "OK we give up" and just capitulate..... Who was running the galaxy?

Actually that and the two  X Wings riding on water was the best bit...... Nerds will argue over that lightsaber for a long time.

I saw the trailer today and I'm optimistic that it will be good. I know Star Wars nerds are hopefully that JJ Abrams will do the franchise justice. The key is getting back to what made the original trilogy so good - the characters. Special effects are meaningless without compelling characters and storylines.

The rolling droid looked really bad. I liked the bulky speeder bike. I want this movie to come out in December 2014.

What is kind of amusing is how that trailer on youtube turned into a flame war and race debate.

I didn't see too much of the race stuff but it certainly is a war of the nerds, that's for sure. There is a definite difference between geeks and nerds and the folks arguing as to the exhaust system of light sabers...sorry, those are just nerds...

Did anyone else read the story about how George Lucas asked Mark Hamil if he thinks he would be interested in taking on an Obi Won type roll in around 2011?  I recall him saying he had all of the stories written way back when. So maybe that will be Lukes roll. I don't see them turning the hero to the dark side.

Star wars>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jurassic Park

The Jurassic Park trailer looked dumb and pitiful-- with special effects nowhere improved from the original. The acting also seemed abysmal.

Star wars gives people a new hope.

But, to be fair, they introduced the idea of a new, and more dangerous, scientifically enhanced breed of dinosaur.

A Deep Blue Sea take on Jurassic Park, if you will...

Without Tom Jane, LL Cool J, Sam Jackson, or anything else cool...

I was oscillating between whether or not that was depressing or hilarious and then I decided that with JJ Abrams as director we're less likely to get the Lucas treatment. Whew.

And for those commenting on Abrams over-use of lens flare and surprise at not seeing any in the teaser, just watch the first 5 minutes of Revenge of the Sith and count how many lens flares that Lucas himself decided to work in.

Since George Lucas loves $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ someone should suggest to him it's time for a reboot of the "Star Wars Holiday Special" in IMAX  big_smile

we can bash poor all the way to the 4.6 billion dollars Bank.

But...this film coming out in 2015, was planned 30 years ago. It has to do with Luke Skywalker, with a special long past friend, who makes a special guest appearance to create fucking havoc, plus some tweety teens with special powers. George went to Mark in the early 80's..after 30 years later, of The Return of the Redeye.

And...my thoughts about the no fun and over produced and directed was George Lucas needed, not a Yes Man, but a hell Fucking Naw Man! jar jar memories.

but the story of the new Star Wars is Lucas all the way, with Lawence Kasdans (TESB) writing the screenplay.

that is what Lucas needed for the bite hard no fun pre series. A fun writer.

At least we are getting John Williams composing along with LSO.

That looks like a more crude weapon for a more chaotic time.

I'm guessing that the guy in the trailer isn't really a storm trooper. All storm troopers are clones of Jango Fette, and the guy in the trailer lacks a certain family resemblance.

Yep.

It's dumb to think that the blade of any sword begins exactly at the point where you can see it, not extending at all into the handle.

I don't trust Mr. Abrams to do right by it. I know I stand in the minority, but his "reboot" ruined a lifelong enjoyment of Star Trek for me. Hated the first reboot, didn't watch the second.

That said, I'm results-oriented. I'll be happy if my expectations here are wrong. If we can keep George away from writing dialogue, there's a chance.

Initially George Lucus started from the middle sequence of the time line by releasing Titles IV, V, & VI back in the 70's. Then the prequels titled episodes I, II & III were later released starting in 1999. Now the remaining episodes VII, VIII, IX are set to come out 2015, 2016 and 2017.  The entire sequence of movies consist of 9 films to complete the Entire Star Wars Saga.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_sequel_trilogy

Ep 7,8 & 9 are coming out 2 years apart.
2015,2017,2019.

Now that Disney owns Star Wars, there will be a lot more than 3 new movies.
They are already working on 2 or 3 other new films besides Ep 7-9. One is rumored to be about Bounty Hunters, and another a Han Solo or ObiWan movie.

No, all Stormtroopers are not clones of Jango Fett.

By the time Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star (20 or so years after Ep3, most of the Jango clones are dead and regular people were drafted as Stormtroopers.

Ep7 takes place 50 years after the Clone Wars, so it's safe to say by now, ALL those dumbass Jango clones are dead. RIP.

I truly don't understand this sentiment..

How does this work?

Now when you look back at whatever Star Trek movies/shows you like you hate them now?

So many people say this whenever something they enjoy is remade or modified.. how, exactly, does it "ruin" what came before? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
