----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rock and roll has always been about youth and subversion of authority. It’s all about sticking to your dreams, walk your own way and don't let other people dictate your path. Paris-based vector artist Thomas Baudel does exactly the same with his art. As a 21st century punk rock Expressionist, he leaves the paths of traditional vector illustration and adds a high-octane dose of rock and roll attitude to it. He doesn’t shy away from controversial themes and loves to mess with the viewers mind. His favorite subjects are “girls gone wild”; intimate portraits of raw but ultimately funny and seductive characters - too wild for their own safety.

Thomas B’s vector portraits of Lolita-esque girls, wearing nothing but undies (and occasionally an iconic concert t-shirt) are striking images of today’s subcultures, glory days and party nights. Born to be wild, outrageous, fun and kinky hot rock chicks - fallen far from glory, reckless and so hungered. Baudel adapts the smashing free approach of a born storyteller to depict today’s generation with a penchant for rebellion. He establishes the expressions and poses from photographic references, then works up the details in his poppy, narrative vector style. His heroines are frequently caught off-camera, drinking, smoking, getting wasted, having a blast. Baudel’s fascinating and mysterious characters are sometimes innocent, trashy, shy, sexual or provocative but always powerful. (source : illustration1.com)
