About Me

Hi! Thanks for visiting my profile.

I’m a visual artist, writer, and photographer. I love timeless, artful portraits, and I have a passion for making editorial-style photos, especially images with a focus on concept and storytelling. I love challenges, and I love working with inspired, hard-working creative people.

**In 2020, I am almost exclusively shooting editorials for submission to independent fashion magazines and blogs.**

Trade For is limited, but I make time for bold concepts, new faces, and models with an exceptional look, poise, or style. If you’re interested in working together, message me. I’d love to hear what you have in mind. What’s your dream shoot?

Styles and elements I’m generally into:

* Alternative beauty and fashion
Including, but not limited to--tatoos, goth, rockabilly, hipster, noir, rave/festival style, hip hop, skater fashion, normcore, and afropunk
* Cinematic themes
* Off-beat concepts
* Saturated colors
* Moody monochromatic portraits
* Juxtapositions, visual “puns,” surprises
* Film grain
* Urban scenes
* Attitude -- snarl!

I love perusing fashion magazines. My favorite spreads have appeared in The Face, Detour (RIP), Italian Vogue, W, Spin, and i-D.

Some of my fashion and photography muses and heroes are Sophia Lauren, Joan Jett, Marilyn Monroe (especially her work with Milton Greene), Helmut Newton, Ellen Von Unwerth, and Peter Lindbergh.

I generally prefer working on location to studios (light, space, scenery!), and often work as part of a team with a fellow photographer/brilliant editor who happens to be my wife. I have a master of fine arts degree from the University of New Hampshire, and I live in the Boston area. Sometimes, I travel.

Still reading this? What are you waiting for--an invitation? :) Send me a friend request, already! Leave a tag or photo comment. Follow me on Instagram @scottmarlinphoto. I’ll gladly do the same. Let’s connect and make some art together in 2020!
