About Wes
For as long as he can remember, Wes has had a creative eye which led to him obtaining a joint B.A Hons degree in Art and Communication Studies. Graduating from University he had a brief spell working for a Liverpool photography studio before his passion for photography was successfully coupled with his desire to travel obtaining employment for the worlds largest cruise line - Carnival Cruise Lines Miami USA as on board photographer.
Returning home he gained employment as a Camera Trainee for the BBC on television Drama productions where he initially made tea and held ladders, never at the same time. Suddenly he was staff on Channel 4’s Brookside before the show got axed resulting in a successful freelance career working on a wide mix of productions including Hollyoaks and Shameless for channel 4, Grange Hill, Mersey Beat, Crimewatch, Born and Bread for the BBC, music documentaries U2 uncovered, Morrissey live at the MEN and the Joy of Decks for ITV.
Before one day discovering with some confusion that he was wearing a 2nd hat as a Assistant Director on the production of over 20 TV commercials and music Promos for multi national clients such as Vodafone, Barclaycard and Cadbury, Music videos for Pink, Busted, McFly and Attomic Kitten.
Here the story changes as Wes changes career gaining employment for over 4 years working as a photographer and PA for a high profile ‘celebrity’ Opera Star Russell Watson (Music Hall of fame, 22nd biggest selling artist of the century) travelling the globe with him taking reportage style pictures and promotional shots for clients web site, documentation and promotion.
This was a very privileged position which seen him travel to many countries and gain access to unique VIP situations/areas. Highlights include photographing client with high profile celebrities and world leaders such as President Bush, Pope John Paul II, HRH Prince Charles and The Beckhams.
Surprised to find that is work is not helping his career or social life a jot he becomes disillusioned. Alone in New York he decides to turn his back on 'his celebrity life style'.
disillusioned he returns home and is asked to photograph a couple of friends weddings and discovers people really like his pictures.
In 2006 Wes set up Wes Simpson Photography.co.uk based in Liverpool, Skelmersdale and Wiagn, he takes pictures for brides and grooms, corporate organizations, family portraits, model portfolios (and anything else people ask of him).
He loves movies - DeNiro and Pacino, likes cups of tea, dosen't like fish, bad manners/bad customer service.
Wes loves capturing ‘the moment’ may it be a turn, a glance, a slight smile or something much more important to that particular person. He loves that a single shot can capture a million words and evoke even more memories from the hairdos we once thought was so cool to the old friends, places and memories we thought we left behind!
Wes, understands how much a good picture means to his clients and tries to work with them to give them something truly unique and exciting.
He say's 'We have all got a little excited at some point in our lives at the prospect of picking up our pictures from boots and not being able to wait until we get home to open the envelope that contain the memories and how much that feeling is enhanced with good pictures, I guess my job to to enhance this feeling with great pictures for my clients'.
'It's easy to fool the eye, but hard to fool the heart'.
