About Me

Thanks for looking over my portfolio. As an artist first and photographer second, I have working in the fine arts for almost twenty years. I have taught classes in studio lighting, old-fashioned black-and-white darkroom techniques and photojournalism...not very knowledgeable about computers and PhotoShop, though. As well as being a teacher, I have also been privileged to take classes from Chris Callis, Kurt Markus, Greg Gorman, and Sarah Moon. I have lived and worked in NYC for several years and have shot male models for many agencies in NYC and Los Angeles. I am now mostly retired, but am working on a project about male ballet dancers, their physical grace and their perfection of motion.
From 2016...

I've been doing some post-graduate work on my photography education from WMU. This spring, I've been working on the relationship between fine-art images and the marketing of music, which has been a lot of fun, really interesting and engrossing work. I've also been doing some research on Peter Saville's graphic design work and Pete Turner's photography for some other lectures. Also discussing some work with editor Patrick Merla concerning an Adien Shaw bio, and the launch of a new mag from editor Joseph Alfieres.

Credit Notes

Have shot for many model agencies, Pastiche, Affiliated, Sam Shahid & Co., Next, Aqua, L.A. Models, and about five that have since gone out of business! I don't think it's me! My work has been in BLUE magazine (Australia) and I shot some stuff for an old mag called XY. One of my images was honored in a GRAPHIS publication called NUDES. Now a Web designer has set up a temporary site for me and I'm going to paste in the temp. address below...let me know if you have any thoughts while it is still in the planning phase. The original dougneal.com has been hacked and contains malware, so only use this link!
