About Me

Letrice Markel Ware was born and raised in
East St. Louis, Illinois, where she lived with her
parents until their divorce shortly after her 15th
birthday. The breakup left Letrice homeless,
struggling to survive on the streets in the
neighboring city of St. Louis, Missouri. Her
character thoroughly tested by the series of
life-altering events surrounding this setback,
she somehow managed to continue her education
and become a graduate of the 1987
class of East St. Louis Senior High School.
As a volunteer and activist, Letrice has worked
with both regionally and nationally recognized
groups, including: Americorp, Expressions in
the Dark—The Network, Illinois Federation of
Families, One in a Million, Springfield Urban
League, Springfield YWCA, and the Center Book Store Research Facility.
Through Americorp, Letrice completed over
3000 hours of service in the community and
received an educational award of $2,000 in 06 & $2700 educational award 10/2009.
Letrice has donated countless hours to help build homes with Habitat for Humanity. In addition, she completed 500 hours of sweat equity and became a Habitat for humanity homeowner in 2004.
In December of 2000, Letrice was featured on one of
Springfield’s most watched, prime time news programs—
Don Hickmans Journal (From Welfare to Work). She has
also appeared as a guest on a few public access cable
programs: Biblical Poetry, hosted by Sister Alice Lyle; RAP with RAP hosted by Mbanna Kantako, Community Volunteerism hosted by John Kelker;and Van Tiner’s Gospel Show (Single, Saved, and
Satisfied).
For more than 10 years, Letrice has lectured and traveled given
spoken word performances at grade schools, colleges, cultral awareness events and homeless shelters—the content of her presentations tailored to the needs of her audience: students, women’s groups, and members of other community outreach programs.
Her familiarity with issues regarding homelessness,
safer sex, domestic violence, self-esteem, diversity/cultural awareness, and perseverance tend to be very enlightening.
Letrice has owned and operated a specialty boutique named
Diverse Dzigns (formerly A Taste of Africa & More), which
carried natural body care products, hand-made gifts, art,
and books. Her academic goals: obtain a Bachelor
of Science degree in Communication 2008 and a minor in African American Studies; Associates in Liberal Arts 2008; Certification in NexLevel Business 2006.
Letrice’s passion for writing has driven her to complete
two books. Her first book, That's Deep: A Collection of
Poetry and Literary Insights, was released in
Spring, 2007. The book features an audio CD which contains
her spoken word performances, and the vocal/musical
contributions of other underground artists. That's RAAW is scheduled to be released summer 2010. She is presently completing an untitled autobiographical documentary.
A point of awe in Letrice’s life is that she maintains this
very high level of community involvement as a single
mother raising four sons. Her sons excel in academics
and are known for their mild-manner behavior both in
school and in the community.
Now 2010 A more profound change in in affect:
RAAWEL (formally Letrice)- Now underground conscious hip hop artist & owner of R.I.S.E. with RAAW (Rock It Science Empowerment launched 2009). Mission: promote “positive words for positive change”. RAAWEL has expanded her endeavors. Having played the leading lady in "We Fall down" a traveling Christian play produced by artist Norman Calmese, Letrice has further pursued theater. In addition, RAAWEL has engaged in amateur modeling. Until 3/2010 she never worn makeup. RAAWEL is and advocate for natural things including organic foods and earth friendly things.
Goal here:
I would like to explore the field of Modeling. I would like to create a nice professional portfolio to use for promoting my books and CD's. Contact: [email protected], facebook, phone 217-855-8251
