About Me

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.” – Anaïs Nin

I have been working with models since 1970, with a fashion photography studio in Hollywood from 1977 to 1984.  I believe that all photography is a collaboration between the model and the photographer, and that the model is as responsible for the success of an image as the photographer.

I am at a stage in my artistic development where I would like to find one or two models who would work with me to create edgy, envelope pushing art.  This could be clothed or nude, studio or location, but it would be an exploration of the human psyche.  I’ve made some attempts at this, see 24 frames on my web site – a documentary piece about two women in San Francisco (http://www.steveanchell.com and go to the bottom of the portfolio page).

I want to go further than 24 frames and need a model who wants to go there, too.  The work I want to do would probably not be able to be shown in Salem, perhaps in NYC or LA.  It would probably be black and white but I would not be opposed to using color . . . as I said, I want to create collaborative art – a combination of the model’s vision and my own.

I have the photography skills I’m looking for a model/artist with skills to match my vision.

“In my dream, the angel shrugged and said, if we fail this time it will be a failure of imagination.  And then she placed the world gently in the palm of my hand.” – Anonymous
