J.Nix, honorary art school dropout.

I started photography mainly as a hobby back when I was 17. I graduated high school (barely) and was faced with the difficult decision of what I wanted to do with the seventy or so years between then and when I finally kicked the bucket (although, I smoke and drink quite a bit, so let's face it, it's probably more like forty.) I thought about it, and realized the only thing I actually enjoyed was photography. Granted, it was contrived and cliche stuff I was doing at the time. We've all been there. Don't act like you've never stood in a graveyard for upwards of an hour taking pictures of shit. Anyway, I decided to become a photographer.
I enrolled in the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in January of 2010. Mistake #1. Good art should never come out of an institution. Or rather, it usually doesn't. School and art don't mix. Period. As you may have guessed by now, I dropped out of AiP, specifically in October of 2010. I then spent the following years wallowing in depression and doubt about my choice lifestyle (Art isn't a career. Don't even get me started. You don't have the time to finish that conversation.) Eventually, I decided to give it another shot, and here I am. Kind of an anticlimactic ending to such a riveting story, but oh well.
I'm currently trying to find my artistic spark again. It probably won't be too easy due to the fact that art is drowning in petty, self-absorbed bullshit, but it's not like I'm doing anything with the rest of my life. I've got time.
