I am a professional photographer and author of novels. My home is in Annandale, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. I travel frequently conducting research and stockpiling ideas for future works of fiction as well as photography books.

My first published book showcasing my photography work was called "The Edwardian Lawn Dress: Gentle and Timeless." The second book, "In Sappho's Secret  Garden: A Thesaurus of Love," explored the beauty of Sapphic love and was based upon the ancient Greek lyrist Sappho, named the tenth muse by Plato. My third, and most recently published book presents 408 pages of classic black and white nude figure art and is titled "Nu Art en Noir et Blanc." That book also contains a guest photographer section highlighting the work of French photographer, Jean Vallette, a good friend and mentor. Two more photographic books, "Real Redheads au Naturel … at Home!," and "Beauty Revealed" have been published in the Spring and Summer of 2010. The redhead book is a fun look at redheads across the nation providing not only an intimate look at their lives in their own homes, but also their own comments on how they view love, sex and myriad other issues! "Beauty Revealed" is a compilation of 368 photographs taken in 69 locations around the world of 110 beautiful models in living color. At 426 pages, it is my most ambitious book. My books are available on jerryharke.com, amazon.com and/or lulu.com.

I have written four novels. The first, titled "Lock Knot," is a spy thriller set during World War II. The second, "On Hell's Doorstep," is an epic drama involving murder, romance, twists of fate, and a graphic and realistic presentation of the Great Depression during the 1930s, along with the notorious outlaws of the era. The third book, is called "Episodes." Set in 1978, it involves a series of murders on the High Plains during a period of changes and intense social unrest in the middle of America. The fourth novel, to be published in 2011 is called "Passport." It is about a nineteen year old Russian girl who is abducted by the Albanian mafia and sold into sex-slavery on a Caribbean island.

My novels are fiction laced with factual and historical events bringing a presence to the forefront that engulfs the reader. I own both my photography company (JR Harke Photography, Inc.) and my own publishing company (Marigot Publishing House, Inc.).

I've worked with models from around the world and I travel to other countries at least once each year to work with new talent. My interests in finding models is directly focused on those whose physical appearance and personalities work well for my book projects. That is to say that I don't shoot merely for the sake of shooting. With regard to model compensation, rates are established as part of the overall budget for each book at the outset and are fair, competitive and firm. I seek out models who find the budgeted rates satisfactory and the rest is all about the creation of art.  All interaction is on a professional level.

My wife frequently accompanies me when I conduct photo shoots, especially in countries outside the United States. She does not consider herself a professional photographer, but has often contributed her time and efforts as my "production photographer" and does a splendid job of capturing images that show me at work with models. These images are often used in the back of my photography books in a special section called "Behind the Scenes."
