I've been in the salon industry for 29 years as a model, manicurist and MUA, with a couple CD covers and some runway work under my belt. I decided to become the total package, and went to school for hair. What resulted was the winning of a couple of awards, very high grades, and the respect of my instructors for being willing to go the distance and work hard. In exchange, they brought out my secret colorist and my long hair skills. Avant Garde updo/event styling is my favorite type of style, hands-down.

I decided to open my salon, Skates With Scissors, because I didn't want to work in the catty atmospheres to which I was accustomed for the majority of my career. I'm heavily-tattooed, and my hair is fun. I needed to be where people of all walks of life would feel that they could be comfortable and not feel judged. I've been shunned in many a swank salon because of my look. It was time to change that. When I say "Swanktastic hair for the rest of us," I mean for ANYONE who has been made to feel like they didn't belong in a particular salon atmosphere. Maybe they were too plain...or too "out there." They were a wallflower in a rock and roll atmosphere, they were a rockstar in their Grandma's salon. You get the drift? We're ALL "the rest of us." It's time to be swantastic.
