About Me
I am Starlene Joyner Burns a self-taught artist and trained digital photographer. My artistic passion and self-taught training began in the late 70's. My goal back then was to study at Maryland Institute under Joseph Sheppard. That dreams did not manifest because I could not afford Art College on minimum wage. Then my desire turned to fashion, which meant relocating to NYC, which was another disappointment.

Those deterrents didn’t stop me. No matter where in life I found myself; I continued returning back to my passion for the arts. My drawings and paintings of male and female figures in oils, acrylics, and pastels adorn the walls of my home. And since my other passion is sculpting the human anatomy, I started making one of a kind art dolls. These dolls are clothed in vintage and whimsical costumes which brings an air of delight into my space.

In 2004, I started a wedding business. That’s when I started seeing a creative side of photography. It took a little while for me to transition from fine arts to working digitally. But when I did, I immediately found myself migrating to fine art nudes, the fashion side of nudity (boudoir), and wedding photography. From black and white to color; I enjoy capturing the beauty, joy, and life expressions (no matter how serious, silly, or sad) of anyone who wants those special moments frozen so they can be viewed and appreciated repeatedly.

In photography, I admire the work of Helmut Newton, Ruby Bernhard, Edward Weston and many others.

My style includes:
Fine Art Nude (captured to express art)
Bodyscape
Abstract Nude
Boudoir (healing and empowering women)

I believe that there’s no end to the knowledge of a good artist. Changing photography to art is my absolute passion. From camera to Photoshop, my education continues. Currently enrolled in workshops to expand my skills.

I work anywhere in the Washington DC and Baltimore Metropolitan areas. If studio space is needed, arrangements can be made at the Carriage House in Washington, DC.
