My name is Cherie Straw. I am an Alternative Model/Special Effects Makeup Artist/Hair Stylist from Des Moines, IA. When I was a child my mother was a clay sculpture artist and taught me everything I needed to know to create amazing 3D pieces of art--I did not realize this until the age of 16 when it "clicked", I decided to apply everything I had learned from clay sculpture to special effects makeup. I started sculpting and applying it to the human body, the result was fantastic. I decided that there should be no "set" way of doing special effects makeup, why put walls up on any kind of art form. I realized that there needs to be more people fighting to keep special effects makeup alive and kicking and what better way to do it than to create a new technique to keep things new, fresh, and interesting. Artist, is a profession that keeps on giving, you give the world your artwork, they give to you their appreciation.

I draw my inspiration from my own personal dreams and nightmares and try to project that outward so everyone can experience my inner imagination. I have always tried to surround myself with other artists, I believe you can always learn, share, and collaborate to make amazing pieces of art. When it comes to role models I have always looked up to Jim Henson for the world of imagination he created. Like any dreamer, I have big dreams, big goals, and big ideas- The more I share with the world the more my passion grows to keep people excited, entertained, and amazed. I currently work with photographers around the Eugene, Oregon area on avant garde photo shoots and hope to be working on some films soon.
