About Me

Hey, I'm Tony
I've been a newspaper reporter and photographer since 1999 and recently started in that capacity at the Trinity Journal in Weaverville. As we all know, newspapers have been increasingly forgotten by people who want their news now and cost-free, regardless of whether it's true and accurate. My favorite part of the job has always been photography and I recently decided to take a shot at doing it on the side, so I can integrate into it as the newspaper ship goes under. I bought the newest and best equipment I could afford and have been studying and practicing all I can.

I’m planning to open my own photo business soon, but I need some work to flash out my studio walls. Unfortunately for me, I'm still new to the area and only know a few people, none of whom want a camera pointed at them.
So- I'm looking to meet models and other photographers to share tips, experiment with photo styles and just have fun. I love light painting, wire wool, open shutter, wide angle, forced perspective, fire, smoke and special effects photos. I don't need a retoucher, as I do it myself (rarely). I'll even correspond by email if you want to chat. If you want to meet and share ideas, I'll keep my distance for our safety.  Since I’m mostly planning to shoot outside (in the 50 to 200mm range), I’m also certain I can maintain safe distancing and I'm happy to mask up if we share a small space.

Models- If you come on a photo shoot with me, you’re not just going to pose, you’re going to do some acting. I have things in my head that may require you to drop everything you know about still modeling and put yourself in a different frame of mind. I don’t need you to be vogue so much as I need you to be in the moment and the creative mindset. Models don't need to be runway/magazine caliber. All I ask is that you have enthusiasm and patience, as I'm often refining ideas as they unfold. Nonetheless, you'll find me calm, patient and respectful at all times.
I like nude people as much as the next guy, but frankly, as a photographer, I’m tired of seeing gratuitous skin shots. If you're paying me, I'll take them, but if I'm paying you, you'll most likely be keeping your clothes on.

I'm currently in Weaverville (about 44 miles west of Redding, off 299), but I can travel around Northern California for the right shoots. There's not much here in the way of inspiring backdrops, but I do have permission to use a few properties after hours, including an auto wrecking yard and a cool retro-comic cafe. I can also set up lights and backdrops in my newspaper's former printing room. I'm currently trying to secure the use of a movie theater during off hours- that should be fun. I'm still still exploring to find cool photo locales around here. If you know of a cool location around the Trinity, Shasta, Siskiyou area, I'd love to hear about it.
Also happy to work with LGBTQ TS TV TG  people, even if you choose not to have your photos featured on my public portfolio. I won't out you and I will be alert and mindful of your safety at all times.
On a reporter's salary, I can't afford to pay much right now but I'm also not looking to get paid  a lot so I'm also willing to do exchange shoots for new models. I'm looking to expand my portfolios and I'm assuming you are, too since you're still reading this. Give me a signed release and I'll give you duplicates of any photos I take. For those of us just getting started, it's a win/win, right? Let's help each other out smile

I DO charge for basic photo shoots, such as senior photos, graduation stuff, family portraits, pets, group shots, passports, dating site photos and so forth, but only if it's nearby and can be done without a lot of hang time.. PS- I don't do weddings or baby photos. I absolutely will not do anything that depicts death, gore, blood or sexual violence, even if it's just makeup.
Thanks for checking me out and I hope to hear from you- Cheers
Tony
