My name is Mike Haden, This is an about me type post so here are a few things about me. I’ve been a soldier in two armies, a fundraising adventurer taking part in the worlds most northerly dog sledding race through the Arctic, a 150 mile run through the Sahara desert and the 110 mile Costa Rica coast to coast run through the jungle. But I think my most impressive achievement so far came back in September 2016 when I got myself a rare and incurable auto immune disease called Wegener’s GPA. So now I’m a member of the Rare diseases of Europe club and I’ve enjoyed the hospitality of the local hospitals; the coronary care unit, the renal unit, chemotherapy on a cancer ward “because we don’t know where else to put you” and all manner of intriguing medical delights. I can’t speak of my illness without a word of thanks to the NHS doctors and staff who acted so swiftly to diagnose and treat my condition. They literally saved my life and I will be forever grateful. I think the one thing that astonishes me more than anything is that after all of this I’m still alive!

I retired early from all that having to work for a living stuff and decided to do other things. Those other things had to take a back seat after the Wegener’s took hold. The last year or so has been spent in recovery and while this thing is never going to go away I’m learning to manage it and live with it.

It seems like everyone I know are telling me I need to get out, get back into the word, that I need to start doing some of those other things I used to talk about. Well, one of those things is photography. I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures. I’m not a professional, I do not posses new, top of the range cameras or bags full of bewildering equipment and by no stretch of anyone’s imagination could I be considered a technical wiz. I do however have a head full of ideas and images I want to create and that is where I’m at right now and what this site is all about.

I’m sifting through photos I’ve taken over the years and some of those pictures might be suitable to display here but that’s old stuff and while the old stuff might make an appearance from time to time I want this site to be more about the new. So for a photographic site the one thing glaringly absent right now are photographs.
