Finding Eve

About Me

I'm a photographer, based in Tucson Arizona and I'm in search of Eve.

This portfolio is dedicated to Eve and to my search for her, her meaning, her power and her identity.

Of course, Eve was not particularly noted for her extensive wardrobe. For that reason, all of my images of Eve are nudes. Eve is in all women. All women are Eve.

As a woman, she can be dominant or submissive, nurturing or cruel, open or closed, alive or withering away, a sinner or a saint, wanton or demure, playful or serious. She is ever changing. She can be one thing today and another thing tomorrow. But through it all, she can be proud and self assured, aware of herself and unashamed.

If you can see Eve in yourself or yourself in Eve, help me tell the story of Eve. If you can recall, in the recesses of your soul, the memory of Eve, help me bring her back to life.

The Expulsion
White Sands National Park, NM

Eve was expelled from the Garden of Eden for the sin of eating fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. For doing that, we're told, she was punished by being expelled from the Garden and forced to shoulder he burden of Original Sin. I believe that is nothing more than a myth and it has been used to keep women subjugated for millennia.

Knowledge, particularly knowledge of self is a good thing. It should not be punished. Ignorance is more worthy of punishment. What kind of god makes punishment for something good and reserves reward for it's antithesis - ignorance?

FAQs - Attempting to answer questions:

Why should I get involved?
Well, somebody should stand up for Eve and show the world that she’s beautiful, proud, elegant, playful, angry, dignified, sassy, sarcastic and a million other things but, most of all, a woman and that she don’t need no steeenkin’ fig leaf.

Yeah, well, what’s in it for me?
Aside from helping me make a statement about Eve? Well, with the advent of the digital age there’s been a major change in the publishing algorithm. Where one once had to order more than 1,000 copies of a book to make publishing cost effective, one can now order in quantities from 1 copy to 20 to 100 very economically. My thought is to self publish a book (I use blurb.com, if you’re interested). The book is not “for sale”, that is to say, its not a commercial venture. The first edition is due out once I’ve assembled the first 30 images in this series and I will provide a copy of the book (in soft cover) to each of those who participated in getting the project that far. I may select more than one image from the work I do with any one person. However, everyone who gets involved will have at least one image published.

So, first edition is at 30 images. The second edition will contain all of the images from the first edition plus the next twenty images I can assemble. A copy of the second edition will be provided to those who contributed to the new material. Those who contributed to the previous edition will have access to my blurb “book store” and be able to buy copies of the new, expanded edition at cost – I won’t make a penny on this project. Blurb.com might, but I won’t. Anyway, successive future editions will come available each time I assemble an additional 20 images. Anyone on the mailing list of people who got involved will get an e-mail notification each time there’s a new, expanded edition.

Also, you’ll get photo-edited copies of the best images we make together to use for your portfolio or whatever … as long as the use is non-commercial. They’ll be provided vial e-mail, sized and optimized for web use, usually within a couple days of shooting. Copies of the image files sized and optimized for prints will also be yours for the asking – having prints made is up to you.

OK, so, who the flock are you?
I’m just a guy and an artist/photographer who doesn’t buy into the “Big Daddy in the Sky” world view. I’d stand up for Eve if I could but I can’t. You have to be a daughter of Eve to do that. All I can do is act as a catalyst and a vehicle.

I “retired” from working for other people several years ago. Now I do what I want, pretty much when I want. I’m married to a wonderful daughter of Eve. We both work out of our home and we spend pretty much 24/7 within earshot of each other. She’s definitely a “keeper”. She understands me. She’s supportive and she’s encouraging of my silly obsessions – like my fascination with things Eve. If you decide you’d like to get involved, you’ll most probably meet her.

What’s in it for you?
Whats in it for me? The doing of it, I suppose. I haven’t really thought beyond that … other than to resolve in my own mind that it’s not a commercial undertaking. Maybe if I focus on the issue and push to make it happen, there might be a museum show in it somewhere but, I haven’t really thought about it beyond the fact that the project is not for sale, to anyone, for any price.

Are you outa yer friggin’ MIND?
Yeah. Probably. But I‘m pretty harmless. Just ask anyone I’ve worked with. You can find them listed on my MM-2722 account with links to their MM accounts so you can reach them and get their feed back.
