About Me

I am one of the fortunate few that still love what they do after 45 years in the business. The bulk of my work over this period has been assignments for fortune 500 corporations, retail fashion, food and industrial clients as well as small and large products.

I am a Tennessee certified photographer, Professional Photographers of America master photographer and have received many national awards including three Kodak gallery awards. I spent many years shooting assignments for Esquire magazine, Life magazine, USA Weekend, Parade, New York Times and many more publications. My clients have included John Deere, Philips Magnavox, White Lily foods, W R Case, Union Carbide, ARCO, Johnson and Johnson, Proctor and Gamble, Tennessee Valley Authority and many more major corporations.

I am in the process of semi retiring and would like to get back to making creative images for portfolios and creating new and excellent images for actors and models. I am also interested in producing excellent and creative work for small businesses such as jewelry makers.

I insist on an organized shoot so neither of us waste each others time. Pre planning is a key part of a successful shoot. I have worked with hundreds if not thousands of models. Everything is above board and guests / family / escorts/ makeup artists / stylists are welcomed. If minors are to be photographed I insist on a parent being present. The only thing I require of people on set are they do not distract the talent such as coaching the talent to smile and etc. There can be only one director in the shot and that's the art director, client or me.

If you are interested in my work I bring to the shoot 45 years of professional and creative photography. I am an expert at creating beautiful illustrations.

Besides the commercial work I do documentary work and have an exhibition that was hosted by the East Tennessee History Center in Knoxville called Vanishing Appalachia that is touring museums in the south. I covers 45 years of Appalachian culture that is disappearing or has gone. The exhibition has drawn record attendance in every museum it has been shown. The exhibition started in 2009 and will eventually be housed in a special collection of my work at the history center. It will be there for future generations to study our culture and is for educational use only.

I am starting a new documentary on the merging or emerging of Appalachia. It will show how Appalachian culture is becoming mainstream. We're becoming a highly homogenous society.

I am looking for especially female models but will consider male with extreme tattoos and piercings, body modifications. I would like to photograph you if you meet the requirements. Along with the new modern body art I will be showing vintage images that I made of a person getting a tattoo in a flee market, vintage jailhouse tattoos and cultural tattoos all of which I made many years ago. All images must be such that it can be shown to all ages. All images will go to the history center archive for educational study for many generations to come.

I am also looking for male or female models with religious tattoos. One segment of the documentary is faith and religious tattoos could be a very interesting addition to the faith segment.

I have no budget for this. I will be more than happy to provide a CD of high res images from the best of our shoot and also do some shots for you whatever you would like. Your images will be preserved for ever at the history center.

Please email me at [email protected] and we can discuss. I would prefer to work with people in the East TN area or Western NC.
