Model Q&A: Shelley Baptiste

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I am from the Netherlands, and I’m based here at the moment due to Coivd, but I have traveled to 25+ countries for modeling jobs.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

Actually, it was just a coincidence. I met someone who was looking for models and was the director for Playboy. At that time it wasn’t as easy to find models that like to shoot nude as now and that shoot got my career started.

How and when did you start modeling?

My first nude shoot was published three days after my 18th birthday (which is the legal age in NL).

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I’m very very comfortable shooting nudes but I prefer lingerie now. It creates the tease and makes you think beyond pictures, always guessing what’s next.

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

A good reputation, awesome work, and they must be reliable. I can’t always choose whom to work with, sometimes it’s not the most exciting idea but it does pay the mortgage. There’s always some give and take.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I love Ana Dias’ work. It’s bright, colorful and a new style!

What would be your dream shoot?

Moroccan-inspired, with warm light, sand, and camels, with the jewelry from the east, some palm trees in the background, and my warm sun-kissed naked body.

How important is social media in your success?

Instagram is somewhat important, I have 105k followers, but there are not that many sponsors who want to collaborate with nude models. My career is not dependent on the offers coming through social media.

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I work out a lot, love to cook and eat, and dancing is my passion.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Stay true to who you are. Think wisely and not quickly over money. Always remember that what’s on camera will find its way back somewhere.
